Re: Overnight trip to Alberni Inlet (Vancouver Island)

I got a kick out of reading this thread: I think I passed Mark with his tent-topper Terc on Monday afternoon(?) as he was parked on the side of South Shawnigan Lake road. (That was you, right?) I was wondering what the big boxy-looking rack was all about. I don't think that was me. I drove straight...

Re: Tuff Tercel Truck

Also, in the photo of your engine bay, I noticed lots of sand(?) in there. I'd lube up all the linkages/springs/levers on the carb. Something might be sticking.

Re: Tuff Tercel Truck

The fuel pump is a diaphragm pump. It should have a small "tell-tale" hole in the body. This is to let you know if the diaphragm is ruptured (fuel leaks past it and eventually comes out the hole). Even with a very small leak, you'll probably smell fuel when you're driving. You could give i...

Re: Overnight trip to Alberni Inlet (Vancouver Island)

port alberni is super sad. i got one of my tercs from there, bought it off a dude with an obvious drug problem who didn't give a damn about it. i'm really happy to have saved that car and given it such a good home but going all the way out there to get it, dealing with the dude, and spending some t...

Re: Overnight trip to Alberni Inlet (Vancouver Island)

nice photos man, your tercel is looking great - esp with the roof top tent. did you get yours from the jeep enthusiast in victoria? If you mean the Tercel, I'm not sure who the guy was. I think he was selling it because somebody gave him a newer vehicle (I didn't see any jeeps in his driveway). If ...

Overnight trip to Alberni Inlet (Vancouver Island)

I drove a few hours from Victoria to the Port Alberni area to go diving. The world's largest simulated hockey stick in Duncan: IMG_0223.JPG Most places have a wretchedly-tacky place that every tourist has to visit. Hawaii has Waikiki. San Francisco has Fisherman's Wharf. Vancouver Island has Coombs:...

Re: Tripmeter broken

That happened to me on my '83 hatchback. When I took the gauge cluster apart I found a small piece of plastic from the trip counter assembly broken off. I tried gluing it back on, but it wouldn't stay stuck. I then tried using some JB weld to re-create the broken-off piece of plastic. This sort-of w...

Here's a link to the diving part of the trip from my diving website: http://victoriadiving.awardspace.com/saltcreek.html
It has a few surface photos showing a bit what the area is like.

Re: Olympic Peninsula (Washington State) mini road trip

On the days we made this trip there was a huge hot rod/classic car meet on both sides of the Strait. Many of them were on the ferry there and back. I was tempted to join the convoy with our classic Tercel and wave out the windows like we were part of it.

Re: Olympic Peninsula (Washington State) mini road trip

Salt Creek is a County Recreation Area (sometimes called Tongue Point). It's less than an hour's drive West of Port Angeles. It's basically straight across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from Sooke. It's a pretty dramatic, rugged, ocean-front park/campground. It's famous for it's diving among Washington...

Re: '84 2wd standard wagon $2995 (Portland)

yes, the 2wd back seats fold much better than the 4wd. the 2wd corolla wagon i just sold had way more cargo space due to that and not needing a full-size spare tire. do your hatchback seats fold the same way? i guess that might be why you feel silly. I just realized that my hatchback seats don't &q...

Re: '84 2wd standard wagon $2995 (Portland)

Is that a custom steering wheel? I have an '84 and it looks nothing like it. Maybe that big boxy thing in it is the "driver's air bag". I've never heard of a air bag retrofit like that, but there's a lot of things I've never heard of. Maybe the serpentine belt is for power steering or AC. ...
