if you have the 4wd model you will need a rear differential too.
for all that you would have to tear apart to do what your planning
you might just as well go to a manual tranny
what mileage are you getting with the automatic?

Re: How to save old Tercel4wd?

Get drunk ruin engine
My friend's son's Toyota was losing some water so he kept it topped off and continued driving it. One night he got drunk and passed out in the car with the engine idleing. It ran till it overheated and crapped out. Then the car sat for half a year. He pulled the head and asked me to look at it. The ...

Re: removed head have valve question
A tan ex valve is more normal than a black one. How many miles on this engine? High mileage engines develop greater valve to seat contact area and this results in more heat transferring to the seat from the valve. This can result in an exhaust valve not running hot enough to burn off the carbon &am...

removed head have valve question
My friends Tercel was steaming out the exhaust and had water in oil (brownish oil). We did a compression check before pulling head. #1 @ 180 , #2 @ 175 , #3 @ 90 , # 4 @ 180. After head was removed the top of the #2 piston was clean and the others were black so I'm guessing it was getting some water...

speaker wire pos vs neg
looking at wiring diagram does not tell which is positive or negative. My rear speaker wires were cut on all cars that had a rear speaker so i'm guessing the solid color is the positive (black vs black w/white stripe). am i right?

Re: Motor knock while warming up...
I drove one of my tercels around for several years with those symptoms.
Never had a problem but always wondered what it was. When I removed the engine (which still ran fine) and took it apart it had one cracked piston.

Re: Automatic goes "Bang"
i'm still messing around with the automatic now and then. I shoved a hose down the tranny dip stick tube as far as it would go and siphoned out over a gallon and a half of fluid. I slowly refilled the tranny with fluid till it showed up on the dipstick at the "cold" mark. I started the car...

fast idle
What controls fast idle? Is it all mechanical or does one of the vacuum hoses play a part? I'm having some problems with three Tercels in this area. Two cars will not start on cold mornings unless primed or the fast screw cranked way in. On the third car cranking in the fast idle screw does not do a...
