Re: Buying parts at local Toyota. What the hell?
how odd. i was just talking about this with a bud yesterday. he needed a new rad and lower rad hose for his f-150 but he's never done any auto work so i gave him a hand. i couldn't get a hold of my friend at the parts store so we had to shop around: lordco said $215, my regular shop said $160. we we...

like petros, i've found my terc to be more capable in the snow than most of the big 4x4's that look super tough. my friends who have owned them all report the same thing. i wonder if it something to do with how the weight is distributed. unfortunately, we got some of the iciest, most slippery snow i...

I've been to BM and plan to go again this year...If I still own my van, that's BM homebase..if sold, it's summer-time tercel (the tan one) you don't know how psyched i am about this. i'm going to finish off work on the westfalia (propane system, fridge, some front end) so that will be my and my wif...

Re: Another Tercel Video I made for ya'll....
i laughed out loud at this vid. those dogs are hilarious (and adorable), and i also like the EL shot, the medication in plain view on the dash, and the back just crammed full of stuff. that is one bleak landscape though, bud. you need a few more hills, trees, and creeks in that scenery. btw, you sho...

Re: Overheated. Won't start. Fearing the worst. Please help.
have you ever had issues with the rad fan, or do you know for a fact that it was working up until the catastrophe occurred? normally it will kick on when the temp gets hot, like during idle, and cool down the coolant. if it was not working though you would end up with an overheating situation which ...

Re: Fouled plugs+dead cylinder
As far as I know, the oil being forced through the breather orifice (or PCV system) has to do with excessive blow-by. Excessive blow-by is caused by rings that are not sealing properly, usually due to wear. T4WDR is right. blow-by occurs because the rings are not sealing with the cylinder adequatel...

Re: Fouled plugs+dead cylinder
it sounds like the head is definitely going to have to come off but do a compression test before you do that. check all four cylinders and if you have low compression on any of them (i can't tell you what would be low--mine are all around 170 PSI) then dribble oil down the spark plug holes and take ...

Re: Predetonation Q
petros, i like that idea. i don't have a spare manifold but i can get one around here. the hole in the intake that the carb sits over is maybe 3/4" longer than the weber base so that will need to be filled too but it should work. the resulting problems though are that you would also need to alt...

Re: Predetonation Q
i know tom, and i was honestly all set to do your and gmeddy's mod but then my dad started pointing out how close the lid was getting to the throat and it just got me thinking about alternatives. it also looks like i will need even more clearance than you needed, and that's what worries me. i guess ...

Re: Danzo + Weber = car no run!
it seems i just solved my old predetonation issue but the solution was the phenolic spacer so now i'm on to hood clearance issues. do you not have any clearance problems with the spacer in there? geez louise, i'm going to be mad as hell if you don't have the same problem i am!
