Re: oil in the airfilter

I have a small oil catch can after my PCV valve to prevent the small amount of oil in the gases from being sucked into my intake manifold. It only collects maybe 2 cubic inches a month. You could try installing one on the other line before it goes into your air filter housing, but from what it sound...

Re: '86 4wd wagon (Seattle?) $2600

pretty high price for not having pictures. it does not even list milage, could be worth it. I have found a pile of receipts for repairs does not always mean it is in good condition. I had once picked up a parts car '85 Tercel that came with all of the repair documents and included the original sale...

Re: '86 4wd wagon (Seattle?) $2600

haha, i didn't think about the sign off at first. mark, have you noticed how craigslist keeps pulling up WA ads in the 'a bit further away' category when you search on the victoria listings? it's only been in recent weeks. i remember it doing it at some point in the past but it didn't last very lon...

Re: T4 auto trans: which trans cooler pipe is which?

Ah. So the direction of flow would matter for a cooler where the inlet and outlet are at different levels, but not for the stock cooler which is just a straight pipe.

Re: T4 auto trans: which trans cooler pipe is which?

It's wired to the switch that's near the pan in the trans. The sensing element is submerged in the trans fluid. The wiring diagram shows it and the water temp switch on the same circuit (in parallel) if either one is closed the oil/water temp light lights up. The standard doesn't have it. it's suppo...

I just sent you a PM, but I'll include it here as well: I'm actually not sure, but on this parts layout: http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=520341&ukey_make=1060&ukey_model=15454&modelYear=1984&ukey_category=21653&ukey_driveLine=6612&ukey_trim...

Re: '83 4wd wagon (Washington State) $1000

I almost feel guilty for dragging this thread so far off topic, but you're right re: tire sizes. It seems to be a common, even "official" myth that bigger tires have more rolling resistance. I definitely fell for it. I have 175s on mine. I've sometimes wished I had 155s for better fuel eco...

Re: '83 4wd wagon (Washington State) $1000

Also, I don't remember seeing a picture of your car, but the above posts mention larger tires. Usually larger diameter tires are wider as well so you have more tire in contact with the ground and more friction as a result. If the tires have a mud or winter tread ("knobbier"), this creates ...

Re: '83 4wd wagon (Washington State) $1000

When my car missed at higher loads it turned out to be the plugs. One or more was grounding out. They looked fine though and were new. The burning oil ("blue" smoke) might not have much to do with fuel economy unless the piston rings are worn or the cylinders are scored. A compression test...

Re: '83 4wd wagon (Washington State) $1000

I'm getting 17mpg right now...By the way, can anyone tell me what kind of mileage they get with their Weber? (while I go out and check for a stuck choke butterfly) reporting back 19mpg now for a 2mpg gain after backing off the electric choke that isn't even hooked up. still not even close to where ...
