Re: charging a deep cycle trailer battery off the towing vehicle?
Probably worth taking it to an auto part store and having them run a battery test on it.

Re: Corolla brake upgrade
The stock wheels on the Corolla I took the calipers from are 14" steelies so they should fit. The CRX rims I'm running on mine have a lot of material on the inside, where Toyota alloys and steel wheels are more open.
tl:dr: should be good.

Re: charging a deep cycle trailer battery off the towing vehicle?
It depends a lot on the charge state of the battery. If it is fairly drained and needs a lot of charge, it will attempt to pull a lot of current from the charge vehicle. Since trailer wiring is fairly small, it will overwhelm the wiring and the voltage will drop at the battery. To fix this, you'll e...

Re: Sheared rocker arm assembly bolts - what grade replacement?
If you aren't getting OEM bolts, you'll want grade 10.9. These are the metric equivalent of SAE grade 8 and should be torqued to 13 N-M (113 in-lb in 'merican).
If you're having trouble finding these locally, belmetric.com will have what you need.

Re: TBI / Fuel Injection Build
That's pretty sweet, I've never used silicon bronze (although I've watched enough Welding Tips and Tricks videos on it). I went through the hassle of baking/welding/baking/welding/baking/welding to plug up the intake manifold hole on my stock manifold. It took awhile and I definitely learned a lot a...

Re: tt4wd runs to cool
I never trust anything but OEM T-stats and radiator caps anymore. I bought a Stant that had a weak spring, so at lower engine speed it would be fine, but once you got on the highway the water pump would build enough pressure to force the stat open and it would run cold. I chucked that in the trash a...

Re: wheel alignment cannot be achieved after stabilizer bar bush replacement
That's very odd, were the old bushing severely worn? Did you replace the steel sleeve that goes over the end of the stabilizer bar? Are both tires misaligned by the same amount? Are they too far forward or too far towards the rear? How much torque did you use on the nuts that hold the stabilizer bar...

Re: 4AFE swap 1st to 2nd Gen with 4wd Transmission
2nd gen 4AFE should bolt right in. The head is significantly differently on the intake side, but the exhaust side should be identical.

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
Yeah, I've found it hard to find anything older than the mid 90's in the yards as well :\ Petros: What's the point of changing the master cylinder and booster? The Corolla front brakes I have a slightly bigger than the OEM brakes on my 1st gen MR2 and I don't really have a problem with the feel or f...

Re: New wheels!
Since hydroplaning is the tire contact patch physically lifting off the road due to inability to pump water fast enough, it's entirely a function of tread depth, tread pattern, and most importantly, tire pressure. Increased tire pressure is a huge benefit for resisting hydroplaning as the tire will ...

Re: Brake Up-grades MR2 Parts Vented Rotors Corolla Spacer Figs
The combo I came up with was rotors from an '89 Corolla GT-S (the FWD version) with calipers from a mid 90's Corolla (it's all I could find in the junkyard at the time). It required a 5/16" spacer behind the rotor to fit properly, which means you lose the hub centering spigot... I have found th...

Re: favorite tire size for stock rims?
Looks like Ohtsu is owned by Falken tires, who generally make high quality products. If the tires are 5 years or older (google tire date codes on how to check) then I would recommend replacing them, otherwise if they have good tread they should be fine. For what it's worth, my favorite all around ti...

Re: Transmission reminder.
It sounds like something was missed when the transmission was rebuilt. There are a number of small lock out pins in the shift assembly that prevent multiple gears from being selected at the same time. These pins are also easy to lose if they drop out during disassembly and aren't noticed, if they we...

Re: Broken Clutch Cable
I've been able to change the length of throttle cables by getting new stainless cable (Wire rope in this case), feeding through the housing, cutting to length, and then welding a fresh barrel on the end, but I don't know how it would work out with the loop on the transmission end. I suppose if you g...

Re: clutch slipping...again
In my experience, clutches are a lot like brakes, they need a little bit of a bed in before they work correctly. Every new clutch I've had I've done a small break in when fresh by slipping it just a little excessively (like, 2-3 seconds more than one would expect) and then driving it super casual/ge...
