Re: There goes the catalytic converter
You can certainly do without the cat if your local regs allow it (in near-lawless NM I bet you're OK). I removed and traded mine a few years ago for a window regulator for my other car. I had a 'test pipe' made for 30 Somalians which is really not much louder than stock, and I can still use the othe...

Re: The Original Radio FM does not work
I agree with dlb, toss the outdated-even-in-1985 radio and get something modern. But don't go bannanas and slap in a $2000 Nakamichi head unit unless you want to spent another 2 bills sound proofing your car. These T4 are noisy suckers that no great stereo can overcome by itself. I went the $100 new...

That was awesome, Tom, someone spent some time on that. "Wrinkles of wisdom" can describe just about every car I've owned.

Re: Tercel 4wd & Corolla SR5 same rear end?
Thanks for the info Petros, sounds like trying to fix my axle is the way to go. Is there a way to verify the axle is good before I remove it, i.e. take some micrometer measurements?

What about the Starlet? There happens to be a fresh '82 around.

Re: Tercel 4wd & Corolla SR5 same rear end?
Are the AE86 Corolla and All Trac Corolla the only other rwd Toys that have interchangeable rear ends with a T4? Is the earlier Corolla (with 1T engine I believe) the same? I'm referring to the really square looking cars from circa '78 through '83 (?). Any of these models will be fairly tough to fin...

Re: Time to replace timing belt. Any hints or tips? Tool Ide
So I am creeping up to about 60,000 on my timing belt since it's last change and am afraid it's way overdue. Jesse, why would you think it's overdue? I believe the owner's manual did not specify a TB change interval. These are not interference engines so even if it breaks you won't ruin your engine...

Been awhile since I've seen a camel-toed T4. Also that's the best use of a Pontiac I've seen recently.

Here's a link to my local TR club: http://www.redrivertriumphclub.org/thecars.htm Just look for cars owned by Duncan and Sheila. OK I'll stop with the LBC talk now.

Re: honda civic: clutch chatter on low rpm engagement
I believe the Southern Cross only was made in a 'drophead', which is what locals Duncan and his wife Sheila Woods owned. If you read through that VTR link Duncan is identified as one of two SX owners in the US. It says there were only 9 manufactured, with 5 (now 4!) still around today. Triumph did m...

Re: honda civic: clutch chatter on low rpm engagement
Wow John, love the groovy Spit pics! I don't remember ever seeing a full luggage rack rack. Forgive me for not responding sooner, as I don't have internet yet at my new-to-me haus. My '76 Spit (nicknamed "Randy Shagger's Arse Wagon" by my best friend) was meteor blue (a US only colour) and...

Re: honda civic: clutch chatter on low rpm engagement
John I'd love to hear a few details of your Spit. I had a '76 as my daily but sold it about 10 years ago when I moved up north (couldn't bear the thought of it rusting out). Turns out the buyer never registered it to himself, prolly because it was his Mitsubishi turbo project that I suppose never go...

Welcome to the club, egillgu. I wish I had friends like yours, mine just to tell to shut up and fix their cars. I've heard The Land of Ice is very beautiful, but you have to be careful: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2013/04/18/new-app-helps-icelanders-avoid-accidental-incest/2093649/ Remember t...

Re: Oil Additives
Buzzard does your engine leak oil? If so a synthetic oil will probably make the leak worse (it did for me). 20-50 weight oil seems to slow leaks, but it's best used in hot climates as it will may your engine crank slowly when it's cold outside. Like Petros I've had good luck with Restore. Stay away ...

Re: Curious abt crash safety, 1984 4x4 wagon
Poor thing is a bit gutless in acceleration though If you think that injected Camry is slow then don't get a T4 - she can be easily dusted by a 70 ton earth mover! If you want to be happy with a T4 then you need to be OK with what it is, which is not too unfavorable. Same goes for All of Earth Life...
