Re: The battle wagon

Nice area you live in TJ, must have some pretty damn tolerant neighbors and an HOA that doesn't exist! Love the hood ornament - it's what "Boss Hog" would have had if he were "Hashimoto Hog" and drove a T4.

Re: ICBC thinks the Tercedes is a "Total Loss"!

Very nice that the RV driver left a note, probably nice older folks with a moral rudder lacking in most of the younger people I know. I can't offer any help as far as Canadian insurance advice, but I hope it works out for you. FWIW my parents had their last vacation in Banff before my dad passed and...

Where did the frame crack? Do you know how it happened, i.e. Evel Knievel jump?

Re: SOLD my 1986 T4 SR5 $1200 Welcome new owner

About 10 years ago I was hoping to take a long trip from Dallas up to Alaska and back in a Westy with a few friends. Glad that never happened, and maybe we'll eventually do it in a T4! My grandfather, an aircraft mechanic, bought a '70 Squareback automatic new in Germany. He and my grandmother drove...

Re: 86 sr5 4 sale in salt lake $900

I lke your idea of hiding your spare cars under the bushes.. I have to "bust my arm patting myself on the back" here. Years ago when I was in the service stationed near Boston I owned a motorhome while I lived in a mobile home. Since my driveway wasn't long enough I had to creatively stor...

Re: How many miles do you average per tank?

If memory serves I read somewhere it's a 13.2 gallon tank. But like you I can't ever get to that last gallon, and I've run out in my T4 about a half dozen times (most recently 3 days ago). I've never gotten more than 320 miles from the ~12 gallons I can access. I don't think there has ever been a ca...

Re: Is the heater/coolant valve Tercel-only?

If you're really in a bind and can't find a heater valve cheap, you can always pull a trick out of the "LBC (Little British Car) Half-arsed Shop Manual". Just get the appropriately sized PVC on/off valve from your local hardware store and instal where the present heater valve is now. Of co...

Re: a day that shall live in INFAMY!

Man that really sucks to hear about your situation. I've had my car wrecked while it was in front of my haus too (attempted theft, middle of the night, no one got caught). Just curious - what was the police's response, i.e. did they even lift finger one concerning finding the perp? I imagine they wo...

Re: can belts be bad but look fine?

i did flip the belt and look for cracks, tears, wear, etc but it looked fine. i read about belt dressing online but it was one of those things that half the people swear by it while the other half swear against it so i put it out of my mind entirely. i might try the sandpaper technique. i think my ...

Re: Can I drive with power steering disconnected?

mikey and danzo, how does the steering feel without PS? my parts terc had manual steering and i didn't even realize it until i had been driving it for a while. i read that manual steering might have different gearing though so i wonder if cars with PS feel heavier without the pump helping. True Dav...

Re: Can I drive with power steering disconnected?

I had a coworker that bought an early '80's hatchback new, drove it daily, kept it in great shape, then donated it about 5 years ago. I was shocked since I had shown such interest in the car, I hoped he would have asked me to buy it first. I certainly would have. Maybe tire chains or snow tires woul...

Re: Can I drive with power steering disconnected?

You won't do any harm, I've done this with multiple vehicles. You can find good deals with APW, sometimes better deals elsewhere, just shop around. I've bought a few parts from them and have had positive experiences. Is your Corolla a wagon? I've always liked the early '80's ones, esp being rwd and ...

Re: Hello everyone

Welcome to the club, Blake! Sounds like you've done quite a bit of wrenching which will serve you well in T4 ownership. Where do you live? This will dramatically effect the Tercel choices open to you.
