Re: Quick and Dirty Water Pump swap

You didn't mention the mileage on that belt. The rubber gets brittle over time and that is the most common place to shear teeth off. If the water pump locked up the v-belt would slip on the pulley. It would not affect the timing belt. The water pump has a drain hole near the bearing and would leak c...

Re: 1987 Tercel FWD S.W.

The rear bumpers on the 2wd and 4wd have different mounting positions. They are not interchangeable.

Re: Windshield wipers quit, link arm in cowl came off?

If the plastic bushing is intact where the arm hooks up, it is possible to attach the linkage with a screwdriver through the panel. Apply pressure from behind with the screwdriver and push the wiper motor onto it. Once it snaps on you're good to go.

Re: Windshield wipers quit, link arm in cowl came off?

Sometimes it is just the linkage at the motor. It happened to me once when I borrowed someones car, so on the side of the road I pulled back the wiper motor and was able to pop the linkage back on with a screwdriver. Saves all the time of pulling off the cowling. Takes five minutes.

Re: Alternator Regulator ????

I agree with Petros, the connectors would be different. I would match the alternators with what was there before.

Re: Front Driver Bearing

I've replaced wheel bearings that have play when you wiggle the tire and after it is taken apart the bearing doesn't look too bad. I find that the grease the new ones are packed with is poor quality and I always pack the new ones with good quality grease. They seem to last longer. Was the axle nut t...

Re: Temperature gauge is pegged when car warms up.

Is the coolant level up? Fan belt tight and not slipping on the water pump? Do you have full heat in the car, indication that you do not have an air lock in the system? A hand held temp gun is indispensable. Maybe you can stop by a shop and see what the temperature actually is when it is running. Do...

Lordco carries the distributor O-ring. Reasonably priced too.

Re: New Carburetor-tried adjusting idle and will not start n

You need to confirm that the carb isn't stuck on the fast idle cam. That would prevent it from dropping down to idle rpm even after it is warmed up. There is a cam shaped lever that holds the idle speed up. You need to check if it is on the fast idle stop. The fsm should describe where this lever is...

Re: Exhaust coming in?

Sometimes if you have an assistant hold a rag against the tailpipe it helps then to find exhaust leaks as the restriction forces the exhaust out more prominently through the leaking area.

Re: rear window defogger wire repair

You can also use masking tape instead of the paper they provide. Carefully peel it off after it has dried. I have never had a problem with the aftermarket stuff. Sometimes it is difficult to see all the breaks.

Re: Not charging, then overcharging

I checked wiring from the fuse to the dash and couldn't find any problems. I finally tried another alternator and everything seems to be ok. It is charging now in the normal range.

Re: Not charging, then overcharging

18.5 volts is too much. That will boil a battery dry. Any idea why the charge fuse is not getting power? The alternator I removed that was no longer charging smelled like burnt wires.
