Re: where to buy weatherstripping?

Starburg--if you find anything, I've got a little drip alongside my driver's side door. Let me know what you come up with! I'm also in Washington..

Re: A Total Novice's Start with a 1984 4x4 SR5 -- Advice Thread

Sound advice, Petros.. I'm definitely hesitant to think about doing any work that involves the car being over my head for a little while. Can't even imagine the danger I'd put myself in without being totally sure of how to work a jack. It'll come in time, I guess. Random new thing that's popped up t...

Re: A Total Novice's Start with a 1984 4x4 SR5 -- Advice Thread

6pt or 12pt on the sockets / wrench ends generally?

Also--would I need a jack to eventually be able to get to the trans / diff fluids?

PNW Weather, Rain and Rust

Morning! General wear and tear question for y'all./ I've got another week or so until I can start garaging the wagon. It's been pretty stormy around here the last few days, wetter than usual (even for Seattle). Long-term, how bad's rain for the rust issue that seems to kill all these cars long-term?...

Re: Clicking noise when i 3rd and 4th gear and...

But even when not in that gear, those parts are still running over each other. So lubrication is real important. And one of the reasons EVERYONE on this forum should check the gear oil levels first on any new purchase, and check them regularly after. Gear oil is way cheaper and easier than replacin...

Re: What have you done to your wagon lately?

Thanks! The only bad thing is that if I have a spare under it, it sticks up just a little bit, which is why I think I'm going to build a roof rack for a spare I might even end up throwing one of those nice led light bars on the front! I plan on using two pieces of angle iron and putting wood boards...

Re: A Total Novice's Start with a 1984 4x4 SR5 -- Advice Thread

the 8mm deep socket should be 1/4" drive (use the 1/4" to 3/8" adapter if you do not plan to get a 1/4" drive ratchet handle), and the 10 and 12 mm deep socket should be 3/8" drive. to have these sockets in 1/2" drive means they have to be much larger dia and you will ...

Re: A Total Novice's Start with a 1984 4x4 SR5 -- Advice Thread

Thanks again, guys.. so here's what I'm thinking for an initial tune-up set. (What a rabbit hole this is becoming for a dude who knows nothing about tools. Sears.com sells Craftsman stuff, and so does Craftsman.com (via Sears), but both of their listed inventories are different. I'm honestly just go...

Re: What have you done to your wagon lately?

As promised, heres a picture of my wood floor! It was a pain in the rear to do, plus my jig saw gave out on me half way through so I had to finish it off with 4 1/2 inch grinder haha. http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/o580/dilloncrider93/Mobile%20Uploads/0831151322a_zpsjulxuwtn.jpg~original That ...

Re: I Need More Power!

Sounds like I need to just chill 'er out a bit during my city driving--good to know! Maybe the tuneup, adjusting timings and an eventual carb swap will bump the power enough to let me kick it at those RPMs while doing errands without forcing anyone to honk. Thanks for the fast responses.. this board...

Re: I Need More Power!

Yeah but was it city? Highway? Hotdogging it? How much stuff in the car? Have you done a full tuneup? Is your AAP leaking? Is your fuel cut solenoid working? Mixed city / highway, probably more city. Even on highways I feel I've got to go pretty aggressively (up to 4kRPM in 2nd / 3rd both to get up...

irowiki wrote:Mine gets 30+ in the summer. When they were new they were supposed to get around 40-45 MPG?

With a tune up, low elevation, proper tires, and not driving like a nut, I could see 40 MPG.
Last half-tank clocked at ~21MPG--seems like I've got some work to do <_>

Re: I Need More Power!

Sidenote, just idly browsing random Tercel searches and found this claim on a CL ad.

Is 40MPG ANYWHERE near reasonable for these models?

Re: A Total Novice's Start with a 1984 4x4 SR5 -- Advice Thread

tools I always carry in the car (and are a good starter set of tools) are 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 mm sockets (with handles) and combo wrenches, several socket extension and socket u-joint, long nose pliers, wire cutters, adjustable wrench, small volt-ome meter, one each Philips and flat screwdriver. ...
