The end of the tunnel is near!!

Here's my '81 Tercel. I rebuilt the motor(.20 over), did a Weber swap, and several other small things. Still have to do a bit more, mainly in the interior, but so far so good. Here are a few pictures after I got the initial 7+ years of dust and grime off. Still have some green stuff growing on the g...

Re: Radiator fan problem (81' tercel)

I’m not exactly sure what it looks like, to he honest. I noticed it in the diagram. It’s between where the wire transitions from brown to white. Typically when a fusible link goes, its burns. 99% of th time you should be able to tell just by looking at it. Although it is a 37 year old vehicle, so th...

Re: Radiator fan problem (81' tercel)

Ya might look into that fusible link between the fan relay and ignition relay. Fusible link is just a section of wire that’s designed to burn up, instead of the primary wire, in the event of too much current being drawn.

Re: Radiator fan problem (81' tercel)

The temp sensor in the head is for the gauge in the cluster. As long as the needle is moving, it’s working, so there’s no need to replace it.

Re: Radiator fan problem (81' tercel)

Did you change the coolant temp switch on the engine or the fan switch in the bottom of the radiator?

Re: Radiator fan problem (81' tercel)

While I’m not sure of your problem, I also have an ‘81 Terc and have a Bentley manual that has a pretty good wiring schematic. Without looking in depth, the only thing that I can think of that may cause both the blower and cooling fan to stop working is if they share a common ground that went bad. A...

Re: Radiator explotion

Sounds like exhaust gasses are entering the cooling system due to a blown head gasket or cracked head, causing extreme pressure to build up in the cooling system resulting in an exploding radiator. I was working one day when that happened in the oil change bay next to me. Quite the loud noise.

Re: I lent my Corolla 4wd to an auto website for road test and you won't believe what happened next!

Technically, the author was correct in that the Corolla was the predecessor to the Tercel (‘79-‘80 was called the Corolla Tercel). They were also wrong, since the 4wd Tercel actually preceded the 4wd Corolla. It confused me a bit when I first read it.

By the way, nice clickbait title Mattel.

Dizzy plugged in? Coil wire attached at both ends? It’s always the most obvious, simple things that tend to trip me up.
