Re: Belt help?

Problem partially solved. The water pump pully was wrong side out. Now everything lines up but I discovered the belt they sold me is waaayyy too short even with the generator pulled to its closest point. So...another trip to the auto parts store is upcoming.

Hmmm, I am wondering if I put the pulley on the alternator correctly...it doesn't seem to line up properly. I am going to go out and take another look. Thanks.

Belt help?

 I guess I should have taken a picture before tearing into this. I am having a bit of trouble figuring out how the belts are situated now that I am putting things back together. I am pretty sure I have the pulleys on properly and I have tried looking in both the FSM and my Chilton book but hav...

Re: Crankshaft pulley

That's the only thing that keeps me going. Once the half shafts are put in I am really hoping that we will have turned the corner on this thing. Bb M - I think I can speak for all of us - WE HOPE SO, TOO! I think you have the patience of Job - I think your new handle should be " Bluebelle's Jo...

Re: Crankshaft pulley

It will not be that bad once you get everything replaced. After all, once you are done with this there are not that many more parts to replace, so you are most of the way there now. That's the only thing that keeps me going. Once the half shafts are put in I am really hoping that we will have...

Re: Crankshaft pulley

I am soooo past panic. I remember seeing a old WWII cartoon in which a soldier was pointing a .45 pistol at the engine of a Jeep....presumably to put it "out of its misery". I am beggining to feel that way about Bluebelle. She is starting to wear me out.

Re: Crankshaft pulley

Oh boy, here I go again. What's a plastigage? I saw a referrence to it in the manual but it didn't explain...as usual. AND....what's a thrust bearing????? Where are they located?? Measure the endplay?? What the heck is that??? This is like a nightmare I can't wake up from. Even the Chilton book I bo...

Re: Crankshaft pulley

That would be a perfectly good way to support the engine. You need it on the front of the engine, the rear trans mount can stay in place and support the back of the engine/trans combo. OK, I will do it that way then. I received confirmation that the pulley and the bearings have been shipped. So I g...

Re: Good news and bad news:

I already ordered one from Rockauto, but thanks for the offer. I suppose it depends on how you look at it. I have a small pry bar which just fit between the lip and the block. After heating the pully I put the bar into the gap and and tried pushing on it. No movement so I got a hammer and tried to t...

Re: Good news and bad news:

This certainly falls under the heading of good/bad news. I finally got the timing belt pulley off with the help of a propane torch. The bad news is even with heating it up about a inch or so of the back lip broke off while trying to pry it loose. So, I will have to start shopping for one of those. T...

Re: Good news and bad news:

Oopsie. So the main bearings I bought will go back tomorrow and I will get the connecting rod bearings instead. I am not going to attempt this in my driveway. I will tow the car over to the hobby shop as I don't have jack stands and a torgue wrench. I am also worried about the timing since the belt ...
