Re: unhappy with 80w-90 gear oil

Gl5 EP additives are too high (like 6-7%) for brass synchros, fine for more modern synchros made of steel or carbon fiber but hard on the brass. While GL5 will not corrode your synchros (the EP additives act as a protective layer) it will shear off a small amount of brass with this protective layer ...

Re: No longer a lurker

Love your story nothing like following a tercel to it's new home, I've gotten choked up over it couple times myself. Keeping mine alive is very important to me I have spent too much to count and I'll keep spending on it at least until my lady threatens to leave me.

Re: gear oil

3-d printing would be good for proof of concept or sending models to a machine shop with the capabilities of reproducing the synchros but don't want to lose the originals. I imagine even if I can I find original tolerances and material specs and have them made we will still need to "sacrifice&q...

Re: 84 Tercel 4WD DLX w/ service/upgrades $2k or best offer

I have personally been able to drive this car very peppy for a tercel. Transmission shifts wonderfully. Synth takes great care of his rigs, he is almost always working on one when I stop by his spot. If you are looking for a tercel to buy he is a great person to pick one up from.

Re: gear oil

I have not been able to find one. I actually have contacted aisin for any hard info. They have not gotten back to me. Not sure if a fortune 500 company will even bother with me. I have a set of synchros that I bought recently but I have nothing to compare them too.

Re: "The Nomad" my 84 sr5

Ok time for an update. I have put 24hrs+ run time on the clip and put it threw its rev range a number of times (more for fun than anything else). No weird sounds, no back fires, no smoke, no leaks, temps hold steady no spikes, runs like a top happy as can be. Timing is dead on 11*, vvt activates as ...

Re: AMC Dealers 1985 comparison test. Eagle vs. Tercel

Our cars have open diffs power follows the path of least resistance hence the passenger wheel burn out due to the drivers weight. However we have no central diff which means power is applied evenly to the front and rear diffs and the spin the wheels accordingly, all thing being equal all the wheels ...

Re: What have you done to your wagon lately?

No picture at the moment I will try and snag one later. Other symptoms? It'd be hard to shift into reverse too. But if it's rusted in the depressed position you will have no spring back from the 5th/reverse area. It's a 27mm bolt on the passenger side of the rear housing.

Re: What have you done to your wagon lately?

I fixed my sticking 5th gear/reverse pin piston thing, it started earlier where it was a big pain to shift into 5 while I was driving kind of like it was binding up, so I searched the forums and found out where this mystical part was, when I removed it, it was all rusty and kind of caught when i tr...
