Re: If I can manage a suitable repower in the future

The ever present Achilles heel. There's gotta be some other motor/4x4 drive line that can be squished in there somehow. there are several engines that can be installed with some messing around, but I do not think there is anything to replace the trans. the early 4x4 toy trucks, with the 4 cylinder ...

Re: Terc #2

there have been brake up grades done by others in the archives. easiest up grade is to intall the vented front disk and an MR2 master and booster, everything bolts right up, there is a thread on the topic over in the repair guides section. rear up grades are more troublesome, you have to fab up spec...

Re: 1984 SR5 - Should I let these parts go? (Ie: An Enthusiast Newbie)

Welcome to the forum! it would be a shame to strip a Tercel4wd that can be saved, good bodies are getting hard to find. OTOH, if it is a rust bucket or the body is badly dented up, or it is an auto trans Tercel, or 2wd, stripping it for parts is the best thing you can do with it. These are worth sav...

Re: Oh Boy! What a deal!

Bailey, those look expensive. they look like some kind of generic strut (multiple mounting holes). OTOH, the air spring and mount set up looks like it could be installed on any strut. it would be best if it was possible to install an air bag assist into the existing strut so if you get a leaky air s...

Re: Oh Boy! What a deal!

Bailey, what are you using in the front to raise it like that? and what is your compressor set up? that same system should work from stock height and than raise it higher for more ground clearance. That is a much faster response than I would expect. on our Mazada with the "load leveler", for when to...

Re: Oh Boy! What a deal!

it appears there are kits to make a car/truck air adjustable, with all the lines, valves and switches, compressor and air tank, including the air springs for about $1700 for our size vehicle. likely would take some experimenting to make it all work together. seems you can piece it together for less ...

that is kind of cool.

you should consider rigging up a quick release seat mount, so you an use the car the rest of the year. you clearly have welding skills.

Re: Junk Automatic Transmission

The link you are reffering to, is it internal in the trans? when you separate the front diff/bell housing assembly from the main trans gearbox/housing, there is an output shaft on the front the gear box that goes to the front diff input shaft. they are connected with a spline sleeve. for some reaso...

That is a great buy, the body and interior appears in great shape, and worth it for that alone. Someone should snatch this up.

Re: Junk Automatic Transmission

there may be some parts worth saving on it, not sure. there is a link between the auto trans and the front diff that can fail, these are sought after by those with auto trans Tercels. forum member Xirdneh has rebuilt more Tercel trans than anyone on this forum, he might be able to use it for parts. ...

Re: Oh Boy! What a deal!

does that mean that somewhere there might be parts avaialble that can be bolted on to give it variable ride? that would be cool. I have been contemplating a way to adapt a ride height adjustment into the tercel. the rear is no problem with air shocks, but the front will take a bit of messing around....

Re: Oh Boy! What a deal!

that supposed JDM Tercel4wd has the north American 5 mph big bumpers. I thought all the JDM and Euro Tercels had the trim and light smaller bumpers. something seems off, perhaps the owner wanted the better protection of the NA big bumpers for toyko traffic?

Re: Manual swapping an auto tercel

it can be done, all the mounts and bits are present in both cars for manaul and auto trans. as noted however, you should buy the whole car to make sure you get all the varioius parts you will need. there are a lot of strange little odds and ends you will need, like the "extra low" light on the dash ...

these are pictures of it when he first got the car in about 2011. it has since been sitting, and is dusty and has weeds growing under it at its current parking place.

Re: Spud is going on another adventure!

I have driven various Tercel4wd on trips over 3000 miles. Many I bought sight unseen, and than took my chances. I would find them in other states, usually not running. I would arrange to bring my tools and work it over, get it running and drive it back home. where I would complete the mechanical wor...
