Re: '87 4WD DLX wagon added to wrecking yard in Arlington, WA on 5/7/2020

that wagon looks relay clean, too bad it ended up in the yard. Likely a mechanical problem, it does not appeared wrecked. the 4wd trans is worth getting, even if trashed, there will be useful parts in it. I do not have much time, or I would consider picking it over, including getting the trans, fron...

Re: Corolla knock.

could be a number of items, did you try pulling the spark plug wire from that cylinder and see if you still get the knock? as stated, compression that low in 2 cylinders means at the very least the head has to come off. do not discount that it could also be coming from a problem with the piston (bro...

Re: Gunson Colourtune spark plugs

cleaver invention, but I can see it being way more useful if the fuel mixture was easy to adjust. this would be ideal for the old SU duel carb set up, or if you have a megasquirt EFI system. it does not appear to be durable enough for running it under load, so it means you can only use it to check t...

Re: Clutch issues?

clutch chatter can be caused by oil contamination. so check the seals, valve cover gasket, for leaks while you are in there. you ca drive it with chatter, but eventually it will fatigue the parts and the clutch will fall apart leaving you stuck. It will have to get changed sooner or later, but you d...

Re: Two recently rescued Tercel4wd cars.

wait! the steering rack and front suspension appears to be still in place. get the steering rack, and that link between it and the steering column with the mini-u-joint on it. upper strut mounts, if good, are worth keeping (they sometimes give up), and I would keep the front steering knuckles with t...

that listing says "non-runner". that is actually in decent shape, nice seats too. something expensive failed, and they gave it up for the scrap yard. the 2wd is not worth much, it is just another old econobox. best value is in the parts to keep the 4wd ones running. looks like no rust, fenders and h...

it does not appear wrecked, that points to serious mechanical problem. Well, the carb might be worth grabbing.

Re: Switching from convential oil to synthetic

it cost more, that is a big con for me. frankly I see it as having limited benefits considering cost, would not your engne benefit more if you simply used cheaper motor oil and changed it more often? I would want to know more about their formulation, and why I should use it before I spent the extra ...

our idiot governor banned fishing, as if we can get infected from fishing. if you posted that in our state the state authorities would be hunting you down to issue you a $5000 fine for violating an executive order. along with telling almost all small businesses they have to close down. I hope the vo...

Re: 4AGE swap into 85 4WD

never heard of anyone offering them for sale, what ever the price, it would be a bargain. I can not tell you how hard it is to find a competent person to get it done right the first time. it is more time consummating to find someone that knows what to do than to actually do it. it would only surpris...

Re: 4AGE swap into 85 4WD

I have a good 3ac flywheel with the welded up holes in it for sale, if anyone is interested. it is ready for a machine shop. I started doing this and changed my mind to use the 4age flywheel machined down to fit the ring gear. it cost me about $90 to have it welded up in a specialty welding shop, pl...

Re: 4AGE swap into 85 4WD

Digging this up from the grave, have any of the 4AGE Tercel flywheels? a "4age Tercel flywheel"? no such thing, you have to make one from other parts, the 4age has 8 flywheel bolts, and the 3a, 4a, 7a engins have six bolts. three options: 1) use a 3ac flywheel, have a welding shop weld up 4 of the ...

Re: Most famous Tercel 4wd driver?

lead acid batteries? why? seems like such a terrible impractical way to do it. you spend so much time and money engineering something to go electric then use lead acid? that picture was from the '80's I think, it was the available technology at the time. High tech batteries were rare and costly tha...

Re: Two recently rescued Tercel4wd cars.

It's sad it's unable to be saved. But at least we're getting salvageable parts off it! Ha! anything can be saved, the real question is all the effort worth it. considering you can still find good one out west, a trip to bring one home from another state is far less costly and time consuming than re...

Re: Fixing Up Jenny

Not sure if 87 is different but I put an 85 column in an 84 and it was plug and play even with the slightly different u-joint end. yes, that will work as long as you switch over all the parts between the spline shaft on the rack, and the steering wheel. that was my point, the short length of shaft ...
