Re: 4th gear shifting issue

I've found that if you use a 24mm (15/16") six point socket, you have a lot less chance of rounding out the fill plug head. Craftsman makes 'em.

Re: SR5 vs 2wd Part Compatibility

Take heart- Not ALL of the FWD seats are vinyl- my original '87 has real nice cloth ones. Far as I know, ALL Tercel wagons produced in 1988 were SR5S. Anyone here that here that knows otherwise, feel free to correct me. BTW- I can hook you up with outside rear view mirrors.

Re: SR5 vs 2wd Part Compatibility

Not sure about the front seats, but the rears will def. NOT swap over. FWD rear bottom cushions are hinged to fold forward allowing the back rests to fold level with the cargo area.

Re: Usable Parts from an Automatic?

Front strut tubes are shorter in FWD.

Re: 1981 Tercel Part Desperately Needed

Kamren- Don't know if the kit will fit your car- website SAYS it'll fit '79-'88 non-Japan Tercels. Is oil actually getting INSIDE your distributor? Nice looking car BTW- I had an '82 4 door I bought with a blown engine some 30 plus years ago. Rebuilt a junkyard engine, installed it, and re-sold the ...

Re: 1981 Tercel Part Desperately Needed

I think the OP's problem is he's getting oil INSIDE the dizzy. If so, my brother had the same problem with his '96 Camry. He got a repair kit from KBOX engineering, and I installed it. Problem solved. KBOX lists a kit for '79-'82 Tercels for $35.

Hope this helps.

Re: Scrapping '88 SR5

Grey tweed door panels went into my '87T4 (sex change) car. I do still have the brown door panels that came out- sorry. As for the radio surround, the only black one I've got has been slightly modded to fit the A/M sony radio the PO installed (upper radio opening is approx. 1/8" wider than stock.) I...

Scrapping '88 SR5

Well people- it's happening again- time to send my totaled "88 SR5 down the road. Car was the "meat" in an automotive sandwich (hit hard enough to buckle the roof- so all the stuff in the front (headlights, etc.) is toast.) I'll be keeping some of the mechanical bits (tranny, etc.) as I currently ha...

Re: Parked for Months, Now Can't Find 5th/Reverse

Just remove the plug and then try to shift the gears. If you can get 5th/reverse then you know something is stuck inside the plug. prob some sort of spring-loaded ball. Free it up and you should be good to go. Good Luck!
