Re: 1983 Tercel Wagon 4WD SR5 | My Worst/Best Decision of my Life?

In the diagram posted above it seems like the wheels are mounted outside the lug studs, as if they're not seated on the brake rotor. Was this intentional? If it were me I'd gladly pay for the fifth spare wheel, you never know when a company might go under and never find a matching wheel for your set...

Re: Toyota is making an updated Tercel 4wd!

If you're having trouble with the key in the door lock you need to lube the lock cylinder. There are several products out there, but I like the ones that have Teflon suspended in the fluid. With the little spray tube attached, poke the tube about 1/4 in. into the lock and give it a few short squirts...

Re: 4AGE Rally Tercel

There are only three or so classes in SCCA Rallycross, so you get pitted against just about anything. As I recall the classes are more based around the level of modification than vehicle capability.

Winter is hard on the diesel in the Canadian Rockies. Below -20 Celsius it's a pain to start and the doors freeze up.
Spray a rag or paper towel with silicone spray and massage it into your door and window seals. This will help prevent the doors freezing shut.

Re: 1983 Tercel Wagon 4WD SR5 | My Worst/Best Decision of my Life?

Choosing wheel offset is not a trivial pursuit, there is a lot of measuring involved. I would say start with the stock offset and try to get the same or similar scrub radius while keeping the Dave Point in the center of the contact patch. That being said, I would see if you can get a fifth wheel mad...

Re: this might get me booted but...(subaru alert)

While the engine swap in my car is approaching 10+ years in service, it was one of the first cars in the U.S. to get the EJ-swap into the EA82 body. Additionally, my particular car was used as a dedicated rallycross car for a decent number of years post-swap, so not your typical example. That said, ...

Koito makes good stuff, they are an OEM supplier to both Toyota and Subaru.

Re: this might get me booted but...(subaru alert)

Craigslist is blocked for me on this computer, but there were a couple flavors of vintage turbocharged Subarus. The EA81 chassis ('80-89) got a turbo engine option for the '83/'84 model years. OHV 8-valve engine, 95 hp/123 lb-ft, only available with a part-time 4WD automatic transmission. The EA82 c...

Yikes, that is not much clearance to the exhaust runner! I predict a melted distributor cap in your near future.

Re: annoying hesitation with carb replacement

Some more investigation as I've been driving the car more during the last week: In the throttle pedal as I move it through the travel I notice there is a "step" in the movement that corresponds to the throttle position the engine stumbles at. This isn't a binding feeling, but more like the carb link...

Mine seems to be getting worse, not better. I guess I'll just have to go back though the entire troubleshooting process on this carb. Sigh...
