Re: Stock Suspension

I've been super happy with my 89 pathfinder springs in the rear and stock everything else. It lifts the rear a couple inches, which is perfect for those heavy Home Depot runs or when you need to move a house (well, all of the stuff in the house at least ;))

They were good engines, it's too bad we never got them in the states :(. I like the style too, no one makes good looking engines anymore.

I actually happen to have an old input shaft with a couple of chipped teeth you can have, send me a PM with where to ship it and it's yours :)

Re: Rear axle gears

Generally the shims on the pinion are there to set where the pinion teeth ride on the ring gear teeth, as in are the contact points centered. Lash is set with the large threaded wheels on either side of the carrier assembly, they are used to move the carrier left or right relative to the pinion to s...

Re: WTB: transmission front main shaft bearings

Top tip: After not much luck with googling for a few of the bearings, I discovered CST Bearing in Santa Ana. They were able to source a 32RT06S3LRN bearing when no one else could. I imagine if you're having trouble finding the others I'd give them a try:

Re: Removing inner tie rod

It's best to support the rack, I generally use a crescent wrench.
The flats on the tie rod end are narrower than most wrenches that size, I ended up buying a... 30mm? crows foot socket and then cut it in half to make it a thin wrench, works great.

Re: 4AGE Head swap - making the impossible into the possible

The internet will do a better job than I: https://www.streetmusclemag.com/tech-stories/fuel-cooling-ignition-tech/ricks-hot-rod-shop-explains-important-baffled/ The baffles keep fuel at the pump inlet when the tank is lower and you're cornering. This isn't an issue for the carb setup because the car...

Re: 4AGE Head swap - making the impossible into the possible

Factory ECU 4AGE will be much easier than a 4AFE since the distributor is on the side of the head instead of the back. Fuel system isn’t bad, but you’ll want to run a surge tank in the engine bay since the Tercel fuel tank isn’t baffled, which can lead to fuel starvation on an EFI pump.

Re: Looking for front differential

4.10 is ideal, but I’d do 3.73 if you’ve got front and rear. Xirdneh is going to look through his stash when he gets home as well.

Looking for front differential

Hey all, I recently did a number to my front pinion of my '86, shearing off ~1/3 of the teeth. I'm looking for the front differential assembly without the transmission, so bellhousing down to differential. Doesn't need to have an input shaft or anything. Looking to have shipped to 76643 (Waco, Texas).

Re: 4AGE Head swap - making the impossible into the possible

The bottom end, other than pistons, of an early (85 to 86) 4AGE is identical to a 3A and 4A. I built a 4AFE out of a 3AC block bored almost 3mm over to fit 4AFE pistons. The easiest path would be to find an early 4AGE out of a Corolla GTS, MR2, or FX16 and swap the crank from the 3AC in place. This ...

Re: water temp gage video

Those temps are pretty normal, mine hangs around 177-180 on flat ground, gets up to about 190 climbing hills at high throttle. It should be those temps all of the time though, heater valve open or closed.

Re: What is this box under the dash with an RPM dial?

It's a set point to turn off the AC compressor if your RPM gets too low. This is to keep the car from stalling in case the AC idle up circuit fails or the compressor seizes.
