Re: Distributor sitting for years at shop
That makes sense dlb from what you have noticed as far as oil being likely a strong factor in the diaphragms deteriorating. Does the distributor have to be on the car for any of the component tests? I tested the one that was on the car before removal to the best of my understanding and what I came u...

Re: Distributor sitting for years at shop
I did get it. But I didn't check it thoroughly yet. I am curious about the vacuum advance diaphragms though. Since the car was "only" sixteen years old when the distributor came off I wonder too how the diaphragms are and if they handled the sitting around without deteriorating. I'll plan ...

Distributor sitting for years at shop
I was looking for a used distributor for my '83 SR5 and found one listed on car-parts.com for a place about seven miles from where I live. I was a little surprised on calling the place to find they still had the part as I live in NE Pennsylvania and don't expect salvage type yards to have parts for ...

Re: 6th Generation Corollas
Yes, that 450,000 was what I was going for with mine until the hydroplaning incident... Also neat that it sounds like the reliability of the Corollas lasted past the nineties. Sounds like yours got better fuel milage than mine did. I have two mostly functional wagons, the Tercel and a Sentra (first ...

Re: Ignition Key
Thanks Richardred2, I had tried to get a copy made at one hardware store and had the result dlb mentioned. The closest blank they had wasn't close enough. I ended up finding my second key so didn't try again but the one key is very worn and if I lose or break the newer copy I may not be able to get ...

Re: observations on my first t4 transmission disassembly
Hey dlb, Thanks for letting us know what you found.
And thanks to Sirfoxx for the tip about what can cause gear oil to get dark quickly. That is something I am going to keep in mind.

Further update: It started popping out of fifth again. So for now I am going to settle for having a four-speed.

Re: Ignition timing jumps around.
Thanks everbody! I had this car pretty apart after the crankshaft bolt came loose over a year ago and got jammed and broke off when I tried to remove it. We managed to get it drilled and cleaned out without ruining the threads but I had to get a new (old) pulley so I know this one sure looks like a ...

Re: Ignition timing jumps around.
I should probably check. With tension on everything it doesn't look like it's loose but maybe the tension makes it look fine when it isn't. That happened before but it really shouldn't be loose now because I put medium threadlocker on it and torqued it to specification. But the issues stemming from ...

Ignition timing jumps around.
Hi, Have any of you had experience with ignition timing "jumping around"? Meaning the mark goes all over the place. This is happening on my '83 Sentra. It will go from something like 90 degrees BTDC to something like 15 ATDC and all over in between. My dad suggested the number one cylinder...
