Re: ISO: Tercel 4WD wagon PNW

I have a friend that is willing to sell his 1984 SR5. it is gold, and though the body needs some minor attention (it has been sitting in the weather for ten years), it was running when we parked it. it originally came from OR with a completely blown engine (it dropped an exhaust valve, and trashed t...

Re: Door grab handle

I might have one in my boxes of parts. I am not sure of it, but I parted out several rust bucket beaters and saved a lot of miscl parts. I would have to dig in my boxes of old parts. if you still need one, let me know and I will try to remember to look this weekend.

Re: my old nemesis: another gummed up distributor

David, it is considered normal maintenance to re-grease the mechanical advance as part of a tune up procedure. if it is kept moving freely with penetrating oil, and an occasional clean and grease refresh, it should never get stuck like yours. I believe this is in the FSM as part of a regular service...

Re: Rolled car back and forth while engine out. Reverse and 5th not working

I have moved a lot of Tercel4wd around without the engine in them, and never had a problem. if it was in 4wd, and in gear, it might transmit some binding when you are turning it, but that usually does not cause any thing to get out of place. As I recall there is a "plug" on the side of the...

Re: Pilot bearing installation and rear main seal?

Welcome to the forum. That rear seal should not slide in so easy. Usually they are installed dry, but I add sealant to help glue them into place. on older engines with some blow by in the crank case, it could build up more pressure than normal and push the seal out. I always install gasket sealer wi...

Re: '87 and '86 for sale. oakridge oregon both $1000.

many of the cars listed here are not necessaryily running. no worries. that is a decent price for the two Tercel4wds. If I was not full up with other car projects I would consider getting them, and putting them both back on the road. but I can not right now, no room and no time for it. but I hope so...

Re: Distributor sitting for years at shop

good find! you can check each component per the FSM specs with a volt-olm meter. I would lubricate the moving parts with lithium or similar dry lubricant. I would get some Armorall or similar rubber preservative into the diaphragm chamber to keep it soft. it should be good, but it could still dry ou...

Re: Where's the Horn?

there is a slider ring under the steering wheel that can get oxidized and can get polished off. In addition to checking the operation of the horn, you can also pull the steering wheel and clean the slider ring, and contacts under the horn button. I apply contact cleaner to them like LPS-1, either th...

Re: OEM Shock Replacement

I thought the local shop prices for strut or cv axle replacement are outrageous, it is not too difficult as a DIY project. I have always done my own. the replacement inserts are not too costly from Rockauto.com. You can rent spring compressors for this job, or get some inexpensive ones from Amazon o...

Re: Another Movie Sighting...

that is it!

it appears to be a 4wd, but has the DLX trim, AND SR5 seats. not much other details could be determined despite it being prominently shown through out the movie.

Re: Another Movie Sighting...

it seems it has been a while since anyone reported a movie sighting, but I saw one last night: Sunshine Cleaning: with Amy Adams and Emily Blunt. 2009 with some big name talent. story is about two down on their luck sisters in Am that have a lot of childhood family trauma to overcome and start a cle...

Re: 1984 Tercel hatchback brake booster

all of the second generation Tercels should use the same booster. the front wheel drive two door, and four door hatch back, as well as the 4wd wagons, should all have the same booster from 1983 through '86, and the wagons through '88. I do not know about any other models, the corolla one might work ...

Re: Collapsed Rings? Bad idle..

you can set the timing without the engine running, not perfectly but close enough where it will run fine. you set the crank to TDC on the pointer, and you open the distributor cap, note where the rotor is pointing, and if you loosen the pinch bolt for the distributor timing, you can turn the distrib...

Re: ThunderBucket, my 84 SR5 project.

that seems like a brave thing to do, trave cross county in an unknow 40 years old tercel in the winter! I would have waited until the snow mostly melted. if you had to do some major repiars along the way, it would have been rather challenging working conditions. I have rescued many non-running Terce...
