Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

an ice axe? that is funny. I have a collection of ice axes and ice tools, some go back 40+years, never occurred to me to try and use one to remove a CV axle. I find the "flat bar" type of pry bar used by carpenters in construction to work well. I have also used larger pry bars, but their l...

Re: Driving for Distance

eventually the syncros wear out and they become less effective. double clutching, not so bad once you develope the habbit, is a good solution. I have also switched trans lub and tried a few things to help. I tried the all synthetic gear lube, MTF, but it is so slippery it made my aging syncros act l...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

I had trouble with a clip like this once. there is no other option but to force it out and hope noting breaks off inside. I worked it in and out, hoping to get the clip to "seat" into its groove, and than was able to force it out. I do not recall if I replaced the axle or reinstalled it. I...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

soak it in ATF or other penetrating oil (ATF works the best), heat the block around it, and drill a hole in the center of the broken bolt and use an "EZ-out" tool. you can just buy the one size you need for less than $10. at most auto parts stores. if you can get close to the broken face, ...

Re: CV axle came out but clip stuck in trans

perhaps a prob tool with the magnetic tip. go from both sides (axle hole and drain plug). that car does not have a diff cover, like the tercel, that you can remove to inspect it, as i recall. you might roll the diff back and forth a bit to get it to fall out to the bottom of the housing, again use a...

Re: Fuel Pump Failure

what is the brand? where was in made.

supposedly NAPA gold parts have a lifetime warranty. you might see if they sell a replacement fuel pump for the tercel.

otherwise you may have to go to an electric fuel pump. or scour the wrecking yards for 35 year old factory Tercel fuel pumps.

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project

here are a few pictures I found on the internet, one is an AE86 (RWD) with a motor cycle carb conversion.

the other is a "kit" that used to be sold on ebay. but that manifold looks like it would not be too hard to make from a factory manifold for the engine.

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project

Has anyone made any posts on making DIY bike carb manifolds for the 3A-C? I've thought about seeing if some Mikunis would play nice with it, but it was mostly hypothetical thoughts. here are links to the old threads with motor cycle carbs mounted in Tercel4wd, unfortunately the links to the picture...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project

Interesting, how will that work with a power steering pump mounted in front of the throttle body?

Re: Manual Steering?

I am pretty sure they are the same rack. note however the power steering rack is larger dia than the manual, so you would want the bushing for the type in your car. I think Synthdesign put in a "quick ratio" manual rack in his T4wd he called "the General", I thought it was from a...

Re: Verdict on AE86 & AE82 Springs

an aftermarket supplier of polyurethane bushings makes generic replacement "doughnut" bushings I was going to try out when mine wear out. they have various sizes, and one of makes a sway bar link ready to go, that can be adapted to the rear sway bar on the T4wd. I have seen the in Autozone...

Re: Window troubles

it should not take more than about 30-40 min to totally dismantle the door. you will need a philips screwdriver and 10mm socket on a 1/4" drive set, with an extension. and a way to get the clips off the window crank handle (some find wrapping a rag around it and pulling it out works, I have use...

Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap

which headgasket? the upper one has the correct larger coolant holes at the back, but it says it is for the 4 valve design, the lower, for the 5 valve design, does not have those holes at the back of the headgasket.

what would that price be in USD? seems rather costly.
