Re: radiator
It arrived! It is all aluminum. Looks pretty good.
Re: radiator
My last “slow leak” was a tiny one one a heater core hose. I finally noticed it, but it took a while. I had one of those once too. it was a tiny pin hole leak, when it was warm it just shot a tiny stream of steam out and it was hard to notice it. when cold it did not leak at all. one day with the e...

Re: 84 Tercel Petros’ brake upgrade
I have bought a complete rear brake hardware kit, including the adjustors, for the 4wd wagon on Rockauto in the past. other on line parts suppliers may have them, try ebay motors perhaps. I would think the older, RWD corolla (about 1980?) should be the same part, because this is the same rear axle i...

Re: Setting Ignition Timing
cap off the vac lines at both ends if your vac advance will not hold a vaccum. also, check to make sure your mechanical advance is working. with the timing light watch what the timing does when you rev the engine, it should advance. if not, it is usually an easy fix, remove the distributor cap and g...

Re: Effect Of Burned-out Charging Bulb
quick alternator test: easiest at night, turn on the head lights with the engine off (pointing at a wall or garage door is best), than start the engine and observe the brightness of the head lights. they will get noticeably brighter as you rev up the engine. if it is not charging, there could be sev...

Re: Blown head gasket scenarios/ diagnosis
a compromised head gasket my not show up if you do a compression test. often it loses coolant so slowly it is difficult to tell if you are loosing it or not. best way to tell I have found is to remove the spark plugs and with a strong flash light, inspect the piston tops (rotate the engine so each o...
Re: radiator
I look forward to your report! If you’re pleased, I may buy one to put on the shelf for the future. yup, that is my plan. I don't need a radiator right now, I already have several spare used plastic/alum radiators in my parts inventory I got from PicknPull. But I want a good one that will last a lo...
Re: radiator
I just ordered the MHT 433813 from O'Reilly on line. got 20 percent off for mothers day too!
the picture showed the same plastic top and bottom tanks, but in the description it stated both the cooling fins and the head tanks are aluminum. hopefully that is what shows up.

Re: Hello From Calahoo!
you need to check the front suspension componets for too much play; the fact that is pulls to either side tells me there is something loose and sloppy. Not having power steering will cause that. Check the tie rod ends, ball joints, all bushings, steering rack and its mounting bushings, and the u-joi...
Re: radiator
ohh! I want one of those all aluminum welded radiators. Every time someone gets one, by the time I go to buy it they are all gone. I have come to the point on not trusting the al and plastic ones, the plastic has a limited life, and unlike an all metal radiator, the plastic gives up all at once and ...

Re: Front Coil Springs
Not likely you will find new replacement springs identical to the stock springs. there are several springs that are close, you may be able to get performance springs for the front struts of the MR2 that will work. there also used to be custom coil spring makers in the larger cities that would wind y...

Re: Setting Ignition Timing
the 5 deg BTDC setting was an emissions driven specification. It reduces peak pressures and temperatures during combustion, at the cost of peak power output and fuel economy, and possible risks severe engine damage when the exhaust valve overheats and breaks off. All of the fuel is not fully burned ...

Re: 3A-U motor.
most of the JDM 3a engines had a duel SU carb set up, and I suspect a different cam profile as well as totally different emissions system (not as restrictive). I would love to get my hands on the JDM duel carb and manifold set up. I am just about done chasing my tail with the USDM emissions/fuel sys...

Re: Double coil springs
that is very inventive, not factory that I am aware of. perhaps someone's mod to make it suitable as a delivery wagon or something. it looks too good to be a shade tree modification, perhaps something the good'ol boyz came up with somewhere in the south. Does it ride higher than normal? really curio...

Re: Differences concerning parts? Europe & USA
the clutch kits should be the same as the north American models and European models. be wary however, many of the aftermarket kits parts do not fit correctly. they often have a poorly made pressure plate assembly that fails early, or the clutch disk is too thick and it will not disengage until it we...
