Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Thank you all for the replies, my apologies for lack of updates as I have not been online for a while! An update on the Tercel. -Idle is fixed for the most part, once warm it idles very nice between 800-1000rpm. Sometime when cold it'll sit a little lower at closer to 600rpm. -For the in between exh...

ISO: Water pump pulley and bolts

I'm in need of a 3 bolt water pump pulley for my 3AC. I had two of the bolts holding it to the water pump back out while driving down the highway and it bent it out of shape. Still drivable as of now but don't wanna push it with a wobbly pulley. I'm located in the Colorado Springs area but am drivin...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Thank you Nordical25 for the reply. I did do a coolant flush and change while everything was out. That is good to know about the steam. I wondered about the spray getting into that hole as well, but I was able to put a "Straw" on the spray bottle to get it down and under the air cleaner un...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Ok I was able to go out and take some vids of the motor. The first one is right after a cold start, everything sounds and looks good. https://photos.app.goo.gl/C4SPFFDkNJ7GRTdj9 This one is of the leak at its peak before the accessory fan kicks on and dissipates everything. https://photos.app.goo.gl...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Ok I have been able to get some done on the Terc the last few days. I was able to cut off the sandwiched part of the heat shield between the manifolds and get that sealed up. That seems to have sealed up nicely as there is no obvious air leak coming from that area like there was before. In the proce...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

It could be a possibility that this seal surface between intake manifold and exhaust manifold could be leaking. What is that area on the left side of your exhaust manifold under "03"-stamp? Could there be a minor crack or why is that surface so different from remaining part of manifold? T...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Murph, These carbs need the heat shield. Looking at your pic, it appears a portion of the gasket is missing. I would think you would need the appropriate “metal” gasket, as anything less won’t likely handle the heat and pressure. Through all the searching I've done I haven't been able to find any s...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Update; I was able to get it to start, stupid me it was just a low battery from sitting while I worked. Charged it and she fired right up, I took a walk after that cause I felt like somewhat of a knob. There is definitely pining in the motor when it runs, I was able to get the timing set to about 8*...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Nordical25 that's a good question, I had originally assumed exhaust gas just because I had gotten all the way down the the exhaust manifold and figured something didn't seal right when I put it back together. My other thought is that it is blow by gas from the crankcase (HC). If it is HC it'd be a v...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Are your EGR components intact? It’s been a bit since my rebuild, but it seems like the intake manifold bolts to the top of the exhaust manifold, but it’s only structural support? If you’re getting air movement, I would expect it’s between the carb base and the intake manifold. EGR seems to all be ...

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Ok its been a minute since I have had a chance to work on the Terc. Thank you SirFoxx for the clutch safety switch tip, it looks like the PO just relocated the original switch to the floor for some reason. Onto the next issue. Upon startup it ran fine, idle mixture is a little off but it idles fine....

Re: New to me Tercel rundown

Hey Murph, Welcome to the board! Being an 87’, having the clutch in should be required, to start the car. The “kill” switch is something I’m not familiar with (and likely isn’t stock). It sounds like somebody’s answer to avoid starting the car in gear, but being an 87’, I think it should have had “...
