Re: 6th Generation Corollas
Nothing like corollas. Knew an acquaintance with an ‘89 sixth gen. FWD E90 5 speed. Didnt treat it with much kindness other than the oil changing. Was his parents car before he got it at 325,000 miles. They took good care of it. Drove it to 450,000 miles as a pizza delivery car in Flagstaff Az. Neve...

[/quote] I love the narrative :) yeah, I couldn't agree with you more on taking care of the trans and letting it spin up and live a good long life with good fluid changes and shifts. Well, see how it does. It came from a good place with only 166k on the trans so far and clean, with good regular chan...

Update on Mevotech Ball Joints replacements Part #: MEV MK9345 Country of Origin: China Sourced 7/1/2021 from Rock Auto Really liking these ball joints. Holding up well. Put in a little grease after running them 5000 miles and they were still mostly full of grease. No leaks or tears in boots. Update...

Re: Wheels Tires and Gear Ratios
Yeah the bigger tires are quite a bit heavier and have a lot more friction road surface contact. Will get some weight difference data recorded here when I get around to it.

Re: Collapsed Rings? Bad idle..
Backfiring violently back out the carb. Sounds like a timing issue. Where exactly is the question. Timing belt off a toothed, distributor installed a gear tooth over or under. Check your static timing and go from there. Obviously start with a fuel pump if you’re sure it’s dead. If TVSV was bad it wo...

Re: Which Gear Oil or Differential Oil should I use? Personal Conclusions and discussion. Molybdenum additive use?
Well it’s been a couple years and 5000 miles since I did a drain and fill on the transaxle with Sta-Lube 85w90 GL4 Hypoid rated oil and added the liqui-moly molybdenum additive for gears to the ‘86. Observations are as follows: -Molybdenum additive seems to have worked-in to the bearing races and ge...

Re: Tercel differential rebuild questions
Highly recommended this for ameliorating gear noise in worn gear sets. No downside if it’s just going into the rear diff. https://www.liqui-moly.com/en/us/mos2-antifriction-for-gears-p000009.html?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAnL-sBhBnEiwAJRGigsdqST_-3vTQkU6couAVWPruQIJkaQcaxITuFAnIxIps3BlpaUaVzRoCl...

Re: Idling too long?
My first guess is thermodynamics and fuel vapor lock. When the car isn’t moving with air flowing over the engine and radiator, heat builds in the engine bay and causes liquid gasoline to become vaporized. Especially modern ethanol blended gasolines. However, this doesn’t explain why the engine idle...

Great plan! A decisive man of action. This is how to grow the Tercel4wd knowledge base.Dreaminvader wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 7:55 am Thanks for the input guys. I still haven't found a definitive answer so I suppose I will buy the transmission and cross my fingers. Surely somebody will buy it off of me if it doesn't work out. Thanks again

Re: Lady ran a red turn signal. What to do now
Yeah, First: tell the insurance company where to take a piss when they offer you too little. Two: Demand you keep YOUR vehicle (for parts!) and don’t let them discount you any more than it’s value in steel scrap weight on the settlement. JUST BECAUSE THEIR CLIENT DESTROYED IT DON’T IN ANY WAY SHAPE ...

Re: Blacktop 20v 4AGE In my Wagon
4AGE. Favorite car I ever owned 1986 MR2. Looks very Nice car and engine. Question is how will the transaxle handle that torque…? Well it all depends on how ya treat a girl right? No launches from first gear. Baby that clutch out and then add power gently once you’ve got some momentum spooling up ev...

CE45C049-E603-4B72-9281-8D954FB4090D.jpeg Well things go around and sometimes they come back around! Couldn’t help but pick up the Two tone blue ‘86 SR5 from the people I sold it to. His wife wants a CRV or RAV4 so I bought I back from them. Came back to me with new 195/75/14 tires on MR2 alloys, a...

Re: Water pump housing for 1985 wagon
You can get a new one on Rockauto. I have one in my parts supply stash, I can’t vouch for its quality as I’ve never had to use it. But it’s just a chunk of cast aluminum so not too much to go wrong there… It’s like 15 bucks.
