Re: convert auto trans to manual?

Take heaps of photos before you disassemble. Best of luck! I definitely will! 8) Thank you I just did an auto to manual swap on my fwd '85 hatch. Hardest part is drilling the holes for the clutch pedal assembly and the hole for the clutch cable assembly. I recommend drilling out the cable guide on ...

Re: convert auto trans to manual?

https://i.imgur.com/qRYzT6g.jpg I am about to begin the automatic-to-manual surgery on my Tercel! Just picked up this carcass in Sierra Vista, AZ. 400+ mile round trip but well worth it. All the parts necessary in one inclusive package. Very nervous for the operation but very glad I've got a full d...

I just added a steering wheel from a Denmark-market Tercel. Easy installation - I also spaced the horn ring with 3 washers per screw as described above.

Re: Engine swap

"A" series Toyota engines will be the easiest option (3A, 4A). The A series engines will bolt right up to the Tercel, anything else will be a custom fab job. Thankfully the A series engines were used in lots of cars, including Chevrolet Novas (re-badged Corollas), so sourcing a replacement...

Re: 1983 Tercel 4WD SR5 Wagon | Overland Build

Any updates to offer on the project? Sad to see it looks like things have taken a bit of a pause after lots of and lots of work. The Tercel looks great, and I quite enjoy the back-from-the-dead aspect of buying it from an Auction and breathing life back into it. Kudos!

Re: R12 manifold gauge

it depends what is leaking, but typically it is just a standard o-ring, or seal that needs to be replaced. a simple fix. OTOH, if a fitting is cracked, it will have to be replaced. t hat is less common on the older commercial quality gauge set. I plan to pick up some hvac o-rings this weekend, and ...

Great work, Chris! Those bottlecap wheels look right at home on the Tercel, too.

Re: R12 manifold gauge

Bit of an update: https://i.imgur.com/CxKWD3B.jpg No local HVAC shops were willing to perform a pressure test of the manifolds, so I did my own pressure testing with a plastic bucket filled with water, and an R134a self-sealing can to pressurize the manifolds. https://i.imgur.com/7Zccodl.jpg The met...

Re: 3D printed Synchros?

Another interesting point, as Petros & Chris pointed out, is that 3D printing synchros may not require a spare transmission necessarily. If there are access to unused parts that can be used for dimensions, this would be easiest. The great thing about this type of 3D printing & design technol...

Re: 3D printed Synchros?

On the topic of 3D printed synchros, I think it would be a wonderful solution to a problem for many. My concern however is that the type of plastic used by most 3D printers would not be durable enough. PLA & ABS tend to be relatively brittle, and I don't know how they would hold up to the heat a...

Re: alternator brush replacement

Heck, your local auto-parts store probably has 'em for $4 or $5 out-the-door, tax included. Thank you! I just checked, and I can indeed source these from my local Advance Auto store for ~$5. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/carquest-premium-alternator-brush-set-xaa1128/12506094-P?vehicleIdSearch...

Re: alternator brush replacement

Reviving an old thread here. I would love to have some spare alternator brushes on hand to prepare for when my alternator inevitably goes out. Looking for confirmation from someone who has completed the repair that this is indeed the correct style of alternator brush on the Tercel4WD: https://www.eb...

Re: R12 manifold gauge

I love doing what I can for myself, but tend to leave A/C service to the pros. I believe some will add a dye to the freon searching for leaks and if any are found, recapture, repair and try again. Honestly, I haven’t daily driven a personal car with A/C for years. I’m usually busy with rust repair,...

Re: R12 manifold gauge

A very generous fellow Arizonan & Tercel owner is kind enough to let me borrow his manifold gauge, and he has a spare set he is letting me keep! They are a bit weathered, so at the moment I am trying to find an HVAC shop who can perform a pressure test of the two manifold gauges, so I do not was...
