Re: WTB - Looking for a Tercel!
Oh man that is a tough one, looks like she’s in great shape still, totally worth saving. But you are about 3,600kms away from me and I don’t think bringing a car across the boarder and doing the personal quarantines on both trips pas would make it a beneficial transaction for me haha. I really hope...

Re: Horn repair
When I had to fix my Tercel's horn, I first raised the brass ring, much like you describe. However, I was concerned that the spring-loaded brush might catch on the raised ring, either causing the steering wheel to lock or bending/breaking off the brush stem. So, I reseated the ring in its normal pla...

Re: AE86 & AE82 Corolla parts swapping to AL25 Tercels?
As may be known, the Tercel IS a Corolla, built mostly from Corolla parts, though I do not know specifically which are interchangeable. Many parts for my wife's former 1991 Corolla fit my 1985 Tercel, for example, which was sometimes convenient. This comparison of parts for the two models is quite i...

Re: Help with original radio
I'm not sure what year this radio is from as I've seen different radios in these wagons. I'm pretty sure what's going on with the tape deck is it's getting stuck in auto reverse, but I could be wrong. 20200919_220525_HDR.jpg I wish that I had a useful suggestion. Auto-reverse tape players of all ki...

Re: Big Boys Don't Cry - Or Do They?
I agree with David. Parts of Missouri are still pretty hillbilly (I believe in a good way). I’ve put 60k miles on the Rusty Frog and it wouldn’t have passed many safety inspections elsewhere. Mine is not even close to being that bad, yet. That is why I believe that someone with the knowledge, equip...

That has been my impression, so far. Too bad that I did not learn about you folks sooner, so I could share in some playtime.

Improving Tercel Visibility
As impressive as the mighty Tercel 4WD is, for years, I noticed that other drivers kept pulling out in front of me, then had a look of surprise on their faces, when I seemingly appeared out of nowhere. I finally concluded that my dark blue Tercel with a black grill and bumper made my car difficult f...

Re: boiling battery - sign of a bad battery, or bad alternator?
Here's an unfounded thought. If one or more of the cells is going bad, would that cause the charging system to be over active? Do you have a hydrometer to test the electrolyte specific gravity? Have you disconnected one of the battery terminals then check the battery voltage after it sits for 24 hou...

Re: Big Boys Don't Cry - Or Do They?
welcome to the forum! too bad about the inspection, but you left off two other options: Thanks for the welcome, Petros! Your points are right on target. I believe that my Tercel is still safe enough to drive on the roads and I feel comfortable enough with its condition to drive it. Now that I know ...

Re: Big Boys Don't Cry - Or Do They?
Thanks, Kozuto_98, that is a pretty creative idea. I do not have any family, friends, or funds to rely on, for this kind of project. Though, I believe that doing what you suggested would likely work well, for beefing up my Tercel. I like the idea.

Re: Big Boys Don't Cry - Or Do They?
wow, that does seem like a shame. I don't know enough about frame rust but I assume with the right skills, anything is possible -- could someone theoretically reinforce the frame? And would that pass inspection? If so, maybe you can find someone who can do the work and keep the car on the road for ...

Re: Big Boys Don't Cry - Or Do They?
That looks too clean! I don't know about Pennsylvania inspections, but some places you can find an independent shop who will pass it in exchange for a little "monetary motivation." Yeah. The guys at the independent shop that I have been using for years, and who are buddies with my brother...

Big Boys Don't Cry - Or Do They?
Greetings All. For my first post, I'll jump right in and make a fool of myself. Yesterday (9/18/2020), I learned that my cherished 1985 Tercel SR5 AWD wagon would no longer pass Pennsylvania State Safety Inspection, because of rust and rot in portions of the frame rail and various mount points. It i...
