Re: 2nd Gen 4A-FE Swap

Got one last update for this thread. Plans again have changed, but it was something a bit out of my control. Sadly the silvertop head that was offered to me has a crack in it so it's no longer usable. My aim right now is a 16v smallport head which I know where to get as of right now. I'll be making ...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

Guess I should give some conclusion to the whole process that was getting my Tercel back up and running. Besides leaking oil, everything has been working great, and I can finally drive on the highway without constantly checking my temp gauge. Engine also runs a bit stringer now with the ports and va...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

If this would be preferred over going to a junk yard, make me a fair and reasonable offer (plus shipping). If you don't want the duct housing, I could remove the core from it, if it is not too difficult to do. I'll keep it in mind, and I appreciate the offer. Traveling in NS right now is iffy becau...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

I probably will loop it. The heater core being broken is my fault, maybe yanked it a little too hard taking off a hose. I tried soldering the outlet back
on, but I'm a programmer, not a plumber
I just need a little time and patience in a junk yard and I'll have another one it.

Re: New Head Gasket Time

Got it all back together yesterday, for the most part. Still need to put my dash back together. Still have some screwing around to do with my ignition timing. Another couple issues that came up was a real bad oil leak, at first it looked like it was an direct oil leak from the head gasket, but after...

Almost ready to fire the engine. Got it all back together.
Just need to hook up some electrical, put the alternator back on, get the power steering and water pump/alternator belt on, hook up some vac lines
and put the rocker cover back on.

Re: Non A Family Engine Swaps

Had a little idea pop in my head the other day about engine options for the Tercel. From my understanding Toyota T family engines used t40 and t50 transmissions, considering the t50 has been used on A family engines would it at all be possible to swap in a 2TC? Not sure if this one has already been ...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

The head bolt that was broken was the cause of my overheating and leak problems. When I took apart my engine the third bolt I went to take out was already loose. I was going to use a bottom end Jimcrazy gave me which had 1mm oversized pistons, but I was unable to use it because I was sent the wrong ...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

The new piston rings came in today. Hopefully by the end of tomorrow I'll have my engine all ready to go back in.
For anyone curious, here's the factory ring gap specs.

Re: New Head Gasket Time

Little update on the whole situation. Tried as hard as I could to get the last bit of the head bolt out, but I conceded after exhausting all my options. In exchange for my bottom end, Jimcrazy set me up with the bottom end from my step father's 88. It also had a blown head gasket and a little rust, ...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

Thanks for the suggestions. What's left of the bolt is flush with the deck surface so I'm a little weary on using a chisel, but I'll try to find my EZ out set. Other thing I was gonna try is welding a nut to the top of it. I did this once before on my 97 Tercel when a head bolt was stripped. All els...

Re: New Head Gasket Time

Got started doing the head gasket today. I managed to find the culprit behind the problems, a broken head bolt. When I was taking out the head bolts one of them was already loose, and at first I thought I had already done this bolt, but after taking it out I found the problem. 20210420_142524_HDR.jp...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project

if you want to convert to 4 motor cycle carbs, and eliminate all of the EFI equipment, I have seen a DIY manifold done for a 3ac that could also work on the 4age. you cut off the flange of the intake manifold, counter bore the holes a bit, and epoxy in short lenths of metal tubes. than use a rubber...

Re: Manual Steering?

Got a question on the steering racks in these.
I cannot find new bushings for them anywhere, however I can find bushings for RWD corollas. They look pretty similar.
Does anyone know if these would fit the Tercel rack, power steering and manual steering?
