Thanks guys I really appreciate everyone's help on this one.
By the way the earlier tranny/clutch issue was resolved by lubricating the mechanism and adjusting the clutch! Cheers

SO upon closer inspection...there is a bit under the hose and three other areas where i can see a bit of oil/coolant coming out. Its been 4 months since install. Can I retorque the head?

Wierd question

While changing the oil today on my tercel i noticed a bit of something around the head gasket....maybe oil/antifreeze....Its only in one spot and seems to be leaking down a bit. Engine has 285000 as off today (rebuild at 270000 with new gaskets of course etc). Any suggestions? Engine runs fine....so ...

Hey guys,

A bit of an update
transmission: still hard or sometimes impossible to engage gears from neutral - took it to a transmission shop today and was told that its either 1- my clutch or 2 - the cable since the clutch is dragging and not disengaging properly. Transmission appears to be okay ...

I had it in 4wd the other days with no apparent problems thus far. no noise or anything. My guess is that it would likely increase wear

hmmm

Here is what I also thought off.

My replaced tranny is (I think) from a 83. I drive an 86 (Sept 85). When I was getting a clutch kit i ordered it for an 86.....So I have an 86 clutch in an 83 car.....could this be the problem?

Thanks for suggestion guys. Ill be on this once im done my exams lol.
Well I just replaced entire clutch assembly (minus the flywheel) including the ..hmmm what is it called (c'mon genious)...pilot bearing etc. But the cable has not been touched....so I will be trying the above suggestions.

Update

Hey guys,

So my tranny is still sorta jamming up at time when i stop suddenly or try to engage a gear from standstill. What also happens is that when no gears engage, the reverse sometime would but it grinds (which makes me think that it is moving....and it shouldn't right! if I'm clutching down ...

Transmission issue?

Hello all,

Ok so my new not so new tranny is acting up...well sort of....No shifting problems at all, no noise, no grinding. BUT....if say I am driving and have to suddenly stop and I am in gear.....by the time i come to a stop and try to shift into neutral...it is hard to disengage the gear...then ...

Sorry for late reply. It is original toyota tranny rebuilt kit. It has synchros, bearings, seals, complete gasket kit, does not include original gears. I lll post some pictures in a few days. Thanks for responses.

I agree because my left bearing had lots of play in it. For what it costs it is a good idea i think just to change them

New bearings and the noise is gone....

Thanks for all your help guys. I would strongly recommend getting new rear wheel bearings for anyone over 200,000 miles

Transmission Rebuilt Kit for the 6 speed transmission

Would anyone be interested in a kit to rebuild the transmission on your tercel. It is for the 5 speed with the low range gearing so 6 speed then i guess. Including syncs, bearings, seals and everything else that you will need. I originally ordered it because I was going to rebuilt the tranny myself ...
