The knock could very well be a bad rod bearing. You can try unplugged plug wires one at a time, to see if it goes away. Also, I had a similar sound that turned out to be a loose alternator mount bolt. Try taking off both belts to see if its the accessories. As for valve adjustments, the proper setti...

Have you taken off the valve cover and looked to see if the valve isn't moving when you spin the crank? I highly doubt that the engine is an interference engine, as almost all toyota engines of that time were not.

if the tips of the plugs are black and shiny, its oil. If its black and flat, then it could just be running rich.

From pictures taken of Koyo radiators, the outlets are on the correct sides so besides mounting, should be fairly easy. As for the ae86, it has a 4agze due to the sticker, cam covers that say SC, and the special intake manifold. It appears to be running a front mount intercooler which is the reason ...

I just finished lubing the bearings on my blower motor. Its a fairly easy job that takes about 20 min to get the motor out of the car and out of the ducting. Put some moly lube on the top bearing and dripped some oil into the lower bearing. The lower bearing is sort of a pain because you have to pas...

Putting words in people's mouths again, but I believe others along with myself are saying that the vac can is unplugged just for setting the timing advance according to the FSM. FSM states 5* with the can unplugged and 13* with everything plugged in like normal. So 10* unplugged is the same as 5 deg...

I believe most of his CR is from head shaving, but i could be wrong. As for my tbelt and distrib, i believe they are fine. Rechecking today, it appears that I'm running 10-11* with the vac can plugged off. Seems like the common setup. Anyone able to run more in cold wet winter weather? This is a sno...

you need to find some info on the resistance of the sender on the new motor. If it has the same testing procedure (x temp = y resistance) then you know that the temp gauge is as accurate as it was with the old motor. You could also try swapping in the old sender if the threads are the same to get a ...

Post your ignition timing

So i've had a stumbling problem where the engine would basically cut out or run rough at 3/8-7/8 throttle. The vac advance can was bad and replaced. I had set the timing to spec and it still ran rough. Today I swapped the vac advances hoses around to see if i had it backwards. I didn't, but the swap...

The 3A, and I believe all A series engines have the thermostat at the cold water inlet. The thermostat determines whether or not to let in cold water from the lower rad hose, not let out hot water like other engines. If you are getting hot water from the upper hose, then there has to be water flowin...

i also agree. My mr2 is a much better daily driver than the tercel, even if the tercel had a 4age in it. The mr2 will still be faster, get better gas milage (perhaps the same), and be more fun to drive.

yea, the non turbo 2nd gen mr2 (sw20) was a 5sfe, a camry engine. Only jap mr2's got the 3sge. The celica gt4/alltrac got a 3sgte. Only real easy semi bolt in engine is gonna be an A series engine. 20 valve 4age or supercharged 16v is gonna be the best bet for pure stock power. Or you could just get...

I swapped old pads from my mr2 onto the tercel, so the pads themselves are the same. This might mean the caliper will bolt up. THe 87-89 mr2s had larger disks than the earlier ones, which mean it is most likely larger than the tercels. If the caliper will bolt up (on mr2s u only have to change the b...

3sge is a 2.0L

I think the carb spacer=10 HP is a american v8 improvement. You shouldn't get anything close to that on a 1.5L
