Re: Leaky front end

According to the repair manual, the seal needs to be driven in 8.4-9.0 mm (0.331-0.354 inches) from the surface of the case. Hey Yaut, What page did you find this info on? I've looked through the FSM and page FA-18, but didn't find anything specific to seal renewal. Driving the outside of the oil s...

Re: 3A-L on Valve Cover

The internet seems to suggest the 3A-L was a transverse engine so perhaps the valve cover just came off of another engine.

3A-L on Valve Cover

I bought an 85' some time back for parts. I noticed today that there is a sticker in the valve cover that says 3A-L. Has anyone seen this. Wonder if this is of any significance or not.

Re: Suggestions for new radiator

Thank you for the suggestion Petros. My radiator is definitely single row and less than an inch thick so perhaps my car has the wrong radiator. Probably doesn't help my cooling issues.

Suggestions for new radiator

Does anyone have suggestions on a radiator I can get with more cooling capacity than the OE one? I see several on RockAuto but can't tell if they're any better than OE.

Thanks!

Ratcheting Choke

Does anyone have any good pictures of how the assembly for the ratcheting choke mechanism is supposed to be installed? I'm sure there's one this site somewhere but I couldn't find any good pictures.

Re: 1985 4WD Deluxe

Hey all, I picked up another 85' DLX 4WD with an auto at 116k miles. This one is neat because it has dealer installed cruise-control and some Auto Armor coating. I found the paperwork for the cruise-control in the glove box. Car is super solid like my other car and the interior is very good, not eve...

Re: Inconsistent Transmission Oil Level

After hours scratching my head, I finally found a plugged vent tube. A mud dobber had made himself a home in there. It got to the point that it was building some much pressure that it was puking oil out of the dipstick hole. After clearing the vent hose, I can now get an accurate reading. She was ru...

Re: Is the Automatic T4 worth it?

My auto is plenty capable but would prefer a manual for sure. I have to imagine the acceleration is much worse than the manuals with such long gears but it does the job.

Re: 80ish mph. Anyone else get er purring?

My 85' auto will cruise at 80 without much problem, just takes awhile to get there. The believe the final on the 85' auto is 3.909 and I have 15 inch tires so I'm sure that helps. Mine gets hot when cruising at that speed for long but I do have some flushing to do. a torque converter lockout would b...

Re: Inconsistent Transmission Oil Level

Petros Great information! I will try it out. I'll report back with the results. Fortunately it shifts good at the moment but it does shift a little hard when cold. Will be nice to see if this improves it any but hard cold shifts is a common occurrence for older autos anyway. At least the old worn ou...
