Re: Inner Tie Rod Length
Thanks All, This saves me a bunch of days time. I'll order them now and they'll be waiting for me when I get home. Excited to get those shot outers taken care of. BTW: Moog outers lasted about 3 years and 30K and they are totally shot. I drive a ton of dirt roads but I was still surprised to see how...

Inner Tie Rod Length
Hey all, Novice question maybe but I'm away from my car and book and wanted to order some parts asap so I'm turning to you all to try and get an answer about the inner tie rods for my 83. Manual steering, outer rods are shot and inners are going to get replaced at the same time so I went to order pa...

Re: Correct length Tie Rods and info
What's up with the 2 lengths of inner tie rods? I can't find it mentioned and this thread is the only place that seems to be appropriate to ask. Rockauto has inner tie rods for my 83 that come in 5.7 inches and 6.3 inches. They don't indicate whether one is for a manual or anything like that..

Re: Overheating saga..
Hey everyone, Update is that the temp sensor started working correctly after thorough cleaning of grounds in the back of the dash gauge unit. Car does not overheat- never over halfway unless climbing up our steep driveway in 4wd. The big thing of value I can share is that the head bolts really neede...

Re: The perfect wrench for starters
and this starter looks like it's been in there a while. not to say they do not fail, but that the old used factor parts fail less often than the after market parts. Awesome- well I'll fix this one up then and have a quality backup! contacts and some brushes maybe. Contacts seem super worn and "...

Re: The Definitive List of Ways to Lift a Tercel 4wd
I threw some monroes on the rear, ran air lines- everything in under an hour. Made a huge difference even with no spacers up front (fresh strut cartridges). I'd highly suggest this $60 mod for anyone who wants a reasonable rear lift without increasing tire size, the car just looks normal and level....

Re: Stock Suspension
I would advise against the lift on a daily driver unless you have a specific reason for needing it. that would be to clear larger tires, because you regularly drive on deep rutted/rocky roads and need the extra inch or two of clearance. Unless your suspension is in good operating condition you real...

Re: The perfect wrench for starters
Just got a set of these from my father in-law as a gift, he's an old time FJ mechanic and had way more money for tools than I've ever considered. They come in handy but I still like fixing everything on my car with my one trusty toolbox- part of the reason I love this car. I just threw the 10, 12 a...

Re: The perfect wrench for starters
Thanks Petros, I find this car much more reasonable to work on than my previous cars (tdi, 318ti, subi) and it's rewarding to just eyeball a size and be right 90% of the time. I'll clean up the starter tomorrow- I thought it was probably a good call to grab it, everything else valuable on the car ha...

Re: Transmission 85 For sale
Awesome, I thought about the potential for this car to hit the road again someday. It's an Oregon car, non SR5 with a bit of rust but nothing like the east coast. The PO says it drove okay but it would need a whole lot of work all around- Paint's peeling, interior is pretty trashed but the good thin...

Re: Transmission 85 For sale
The motor was run without oil so they sold me the car for parts, the transmission and transaxle/ diff combo setup is all fine.

Transmission 85 For sale
Hey everyone, I recently bought a parts car off a friend who drove it without oil (oof). I have an 83, so certain things are just not swappable but overall it was definitely worth the 100 dollars. The transmission shifts good, drained dark though (I heard wasn't there) and I want a backup but it's t...
