Re: Seems my front differential assembly is bad.

I think I’m just going to go ahead and change them both out. Bearings are cheap and it needs at least one anyway and hopefully that will turn out to be the culprit and I can start driving this car around. And thanks for the help so far. I’ve had a whole lot going on lately and it seems like this car...

Re: Seems my front differential assembly is bad.

So now I’m starting to think it’s both front wheel bearings. The passenger bearing is definitely bad, as I can hear a high pitched squeel coming from it. The grinding however is just about impossible to pinpoint based on sound. When it’s up on jacks 80% of the noise goes away and trying to locate ex...

Re: Seems my front differential assembly is bad.

So I got the car jacked up today and pulled the differential cover off and everything inside looked good. No metal chunks or shavings that I could see. I put it in neutral and rotated the front wheels so that I could observe all of the teeth on the ring gear and inspect the spider gears more closely...

Re: Seems my front differential assembly is bad.

Pretty sure it’s not the wheel bearings. While I was doing the brakes I ran it with a wheel up in the air after doing each side to try and figure out where the sound was coming from. Same grinding sound regardless of which wheel I had spinning. I’ll check out the ring gear and differential next.

Seems my front differential assembly is bad.

I changed out the calipers and rotors on my brakes today, using MR2 and 93 Tercel parts. It all went pretty smooth and fabricating the spacers was no problem. There’s still some air in the lines, but I’ll get that out when I replace the booster and master cylinder later. My big problem now seems to ...

Re: Old-school Reunion, Wa

I should have mine up and running by then. I think it’s in good condition for a 31 year old economy car, but its definitely not a show car and I think I’d feel a little out of place with it at a car show.

Lift, larger tires and fuel economy.

For those of you who have lifted your Tercel’s or switched to larger tires, how big of an impact did it have on your fuel economy? My experience with other vehicles is that lift almost always negatively effects gas mileage and that the same is usually true of larger tires, but not always, with cars ...

Re: T4wd kills it in the snow, the hype was real

Check your heat control valve in engine compartment on passenger side firewall. Make sure it opens all the way. Disconnect cable and push lever towards driver side as far as it will go then reconnect cable. What I've done for years, but I leave it unhooked until warmer weather and then hook up the ...

I’ve had two RAV4’s now. A first gen and a late model hybrid. Wonderful little vehicles until you have to work on them.

Re: My Toyota Pickup

I sold my 98 Tacoma a few months ago and I really regret having done it. Best truck I ever owned. When I sold it it had 238,000 miles on it with a completely original drivetrain. The only things that had been replaced were wear items and a few plastic pieces like vents and a door handle. Unfortunate...

Re: How worthwhile are exhaust mods?

Thanks for all the advise, and I live in Tacoma BTW. It appears that there isn’t much to be gained with any engine mods, so I guess I’ll just leave it stock for the time being. One thing I’m going to have to do in the future is get the front and rear ring gears matched up. I’ve got 4.10’s in the rea...

Re: How worthwhile are exhaust mods?

I had a glasspack on a 4Runner I used to own. It sounded good, but I’ll probably keep this one quiet. So long as I’m spending money fixing it up, I just want to pick all the low hanging fruit I can. If there’s no real benefit however, then I won’t bother.

How worthwhile are exhaust mods?

I just picked up an 87 4wd wagon with a 6 speed. Body and interior are very good. The motor runs and seems to have strong acceleration,(considering what it is), and the trans shifts smoothly through all gears. Unfortunately, that’s about the extent of whats good. The idle is erratic and way too high...
