Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

Weird it happened on all 3, I suppose all 3A tstats are of mediocre quality, I'll install a new one, I have a new one somewhere, good brand, non OEM, I wonder what the result will be.

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

Forgot to ask: what's the deal with Tercel thermostats? I've driven three now and owned two and all three had the same symptoms: when moving at any speed, the temperature gets the needle barely off the minimum, when sitting in traffic, temps will climb normally and sit perfectly in the middle of the...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

Tercel Wagons are like hen's teeth in Europe and good ones aren't cheap. You can find some nice first gen Hilux pickups in Greece though for reasonable prices, those are fun, or if you want to get more exotic, a Toyota Stout. Driving a car back to the US would be an expensive undertaking and if you ...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

After close to a year of lurking here, this happened: https://i.imgur.com/ln4UNWt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/qpdqRQv.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ttzxJM8.jpg 55000 mile one owner timecapsule, this thing is mint , couldn't resist it, despite it being more or less identical to my other one (new one on the rig...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

@Petros: I'm quite happy to have found it. The timing is all wrong for another project, but I couldn't pass it up. :) I never see these as projects anymore. Seems like ever since savings accounts stopped paying interest, people started investing in other things, classic cars being one of them, it ha...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

We've been having some colder weather lately so I set out to change the coolant. Not yet 5 minutes in the block drain petcock snapped clean off with what I can only describe as an impressive lack of torque for a Toyota product. I had to step back to confirm I wasn't wrenching on an Italian car. Simp...

Re: Hello from Yakima WA, Meet Mr. T

I'm from Belgium YakSr5, wouldn't be surprised if my 4WD Wagon is the last one on the roads in the entire country. No need for a pic I think, it sounds pretty straightforward. It's not a priority anyway, but a good reason to snap up a set of seats if and when I come across some in good condition, es...

Re: Hello from Yakima WA, Meet Mr. T

Cool Tercel! Being jealous of the SR5 seats you guys got in the US, I've actually considered doing exactly what you did, find a nice set of Supra MK 2 seats in brown/tan for my Tercel. I never really investigated further, figuring I didn't need the hassle of fabricating mounting brackets. But seeing...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

Thanks for the insight Petros. I'm not having any cold start issues at all after replacing all vacuum lines earlier this year. Now that the ambient temperature is in a "normal" range for my region (and the region where I bought the car) it fires up just fine. The problem lies strictly in closing the...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

I've been quietly lurking here, but not much to report. I do have a question with regards to the choke coil. Earlier in this topic I posted about my choke not closing as it's supposed to. I bought a spare carb and rebuild kit, but in the meantime the problem sorted itself out, well kind of. I notice...

Re: Choke won't close

During my daily spritz of carb cleaner whilst moving the choke valve, I noticed it slowly closing if I hold down the throttle for a good 5 seconds, so it looks like some gunk hiding in the pivot points may be the culprit after all. The carb looks easy enough to remove, but the rebuild kit and spare ...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon

Very nice looking Tercel, love the interior/exterior color combo, and what a gorgeous interior! First gen MR2 wheels are the perfect era-correct upgrade, IMO. Also dig the stickers on the Land Cruiser, the sea blue/white 21w in the background...I have owned around 50 split windows in my day ;). My ...

Might as well "update" this thread whilst lurking around the forums, MR2 wheels installed. :)

Re: Choke won't close

Thanks for the tip Petros. Looks like something I'd want to do on the bench rather than contorting my 6'6" frame into the engine bay. There's no way I'm removing the carb without destroying the old intake gasket, so I'll just try a daily spray of carb cleaner on the choke pivots with the valve in va...

Choke won't close

Now that it's summer, I've been driving several of my cars which means the Tercel will sit for a while from time to time. It wouildn't start and I quickly noticed the choke wasn't closing after two pumps of the throttle. Blasted the hinges of the choke valve with some carb cleaner and that did the t...
