Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
I think it's pretty much dialed in now. At about 35 degrees F, it needs 2 throttle presses to engage choke and a tiny amount of throttle while cranking and it'll fire right up with a non-fluctuating 1200rpm high idle. Once you know how, it's easy. Ideally I'd like to get it dialed in to the point wh...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
I had a good hour to tinker today, so I didn't follow the entire FSM diagnosis procedure, but upon removal of the aircleaner, I immediately noticed the dryrot in the vacuum hoses. Replaced all of them with new silicone ones. Preliminary result: fast idle function is restored and holding idle at a st...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
That is normal it is never supposed to be fully closed or the engine would die. There's a vacuum operated choke breaker (that holds it open like you pictured) and a choke opener (that opens it when engine is hot) that both work together to modulate the choke. Sounds like your fast idle is busted wh...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
@garyfish: stock euro headlights, as far as I know, never seen any other kind. With regards to the starting issues, I seem to have worked out the magic formula for now: 3 pumps of the throttle, keep pedal 1/3 pressed, crank and she'll fire right up, but will die if you let off the throttle (manually...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
I have a bunch of 3mm, 5mm and 10mm silicone vacuum tubing on the way, once it gets here I'll start properly diagnosing. Another bit of good news: turns out the engine and drivetrain don't have 152000 miles on them but 67000 miles. :D Just received the entire history of the car via mail (seller call...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
@Petros: had a quick look today, my '84 EU model is thankfully missing a whole bunch of EGR/altitude compensation/god knows what else stuff. On the downside, I'm probably going to have to source a EU spec 3A engine manual somewhere to be sure everything is bone stock. Had my first proper, dry weathe...

Re: Which front axle shafts/CV joints (preferably in Europe)?
@ARCHINSTL: Got them off eBay, $115 for the set, so not too far off Rock Auto MSRP, the rest is international shipping and import duties. Truth be told, even if I could get them in Europe, I don't think the price would have been much lower. Just too bad I couldn't get GSP axles(well, I could, for ab...

Re: Which front axle shafts/CV joints (preferably in Europe)?
Called GSP, they don't stock CV shafts for older vehicles here in Europe. They forwarded me to a few of their biggest distributors, but I couldn't find the parts on their website. I ordered a set of SurTrack axles for now, came to 170€ including import charges, which seemed reasonable. Chinese made,...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
@Mad_Marx: I believe American SR5 design: water temp vertical gauge/tach/speedo/fuel level vertical gauge. Please don't tell me the JDM Sprinter Carib came with a digital dash, because if that's the case, I'm going to have to... do stuff. @irowiki: doesn't help. Tried sprinkling some fuel do...

Re: 1984 Euro Tercel 4WD Wagon
These are exceedingly rare in Europe, as you said. Never spotted one in the wild despite having a thing for obscure eighties Toyotas. I've found the answer to a lot of my questions browsing threads here. Heater controls are shot and I will be preemptively replacing all vacuum tubing anyway, seems li...

Re: 14" All Terrain tires
My daily driver is a HJ61 60 series running 31x10.5 BFG A/T KO2, so I'm used to a bit of noise, but I think all listed tires here will be worse (other than 1 and 7 as you said). I plan on running 2 sets of tires though, one summer and one off road/winter, which is why I'm looking at more aggressive ...

Re: Which front axle shafts/CV joints (preferably in Europe)?
I'm pretty sure mine are beyond rebuilding, they're ticking very loudly under load in corners and the previous owner has been driving that way for quite a while. Besides, I suspect sourcing rebuild parts will be equally challenging. I'm going to give GSP a call tomorrow, if that turns into a hassle ...

Re: Which front axle shafts/CV joints (preferably in Europe)?
@ARCHINSTL: I actually found that site, hoping for a list of distributors, no such luck. I might contact them if I can't come up with a regular supplier. Who would've thought I'd have more trouble sourcing parts for an econobox Toyota than one of my 60's Alfa Romeos.

14" All Terrain tires
I've found some outdated threads on the subject, but was wondering what 14" all terrain tires people here are using in 2017/2018? While I'm at it, I figured it might be useful to document what i've discovered so far after a few hours of searching. Brace yourselves, this is going to be a long on...

Re: WTB: several brown interior items / heater controls / mudflaps
ARCHINSTL: I actually found your thread and it's a possibility, but since I need some other stuff anyway, I figured I'd include it in my list. I suspect most shift boots are in similar, dry rotted condition to mine, but you never know.
