Re: Inheriting an 85, bad idea for first kid's car?

If you are worried about parts availability, check out rock auto.
https://www.rockauto.com
It's a pretty definitive list of what parts you can and cannot get for these cars.

What you can't find is made up for by pick n pull, or the friendly inhabitants of this forum.

Re: Inheriting an 85, bad idea for first kid's car?

For what it's worth, my first car was a tercel and I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. A tercel is probably less likely to be in a violent crash that is the fault of the driver simply because they're, uh, slow. I would be more worried about other drivers hitting the tercel. Some of the ...

Re: Anyone in Arizona?

That license plate indicates that the car is begging for a 4age swap.

Re: "Kootney Cadillac"

wonder if they guy is just flipping it without knowing anything about it. clearly the seller knows nothing about the car, appears completely ignorant about the engine, the 4wd system, tires, and who knows what else. reminds me about the first Tercel4wd I bought for $150. he only owned it a few week...

Re: "Kootney Cadillac"

Ad says "High and low range and g gear." Between that, the 22r thing, the tires rolled in front of the actual tires, and the "I should be asking $3000 but I'll sell it for $500" line, this ad is setting off all kinds of alarm bells for me. I mean besides the car just being beat to hell, of course. ...

Re: Parting out 1985 SR5 dark blue, San Diego

I'm parting out what's left of my nice 1985 dark blue Tercel and have some interior trim and other things from a 1983 Gold Tercel. If the parts are going to be picked up locally I will do local Pick Your Part pricing and am willing to make some negotiations for multiple parts. I'd prefer not to shi...

I think you're right about just setting them there. He did trim those front fenders though.

I sent him an email asking about the tires and engine performance under a load like that and also asking about if he did a 22r swap but I haven't heard anything yet.
Any word back yet?

Re: "Kootney Cadillac"

Upon closer inspection, those tires aren't actually on the car, they are just rolled in front.

If it doesn't sell by the summer I might have to have a look.

"Kootney Cadillac"

Why can't people just check to see that its not a 22r? Probably the most common error I see when perusing used tercels.

Anyhow this beast has some ridiculous tires. I like it.

I've seen a few of these on craigslist over the years. Very cool indeed, but $4000 is way overpriced. In that condition, it basically looks like a beater.
My thoughts exactly. Maybe worth $2000.

My GOD. Why didn't we ever get cool things like this in the North American market.

On a side note, I bet that diesel would drop right into a tercel.

Re: Transmission reminder.

The only time I've had my transmission pop out of first is when I hit a deceptively large pothole on a forestry road. It shifted into neutral from the actual mass of the shifter pulling downwards from the sudden jolt. It has happened twice now, and it always freaks me out. And I feel bad for the car...
