Thanks for the props boys. I also want to thank you all for being so so very helpful - I will undoubtedly own another one of these cars. I can't even describe how much I tried to work something out so that I didn't have to sell it. Unfortunately, I have a 4 car driveway and after this saturday when ...

FS: 1986 Tercel Wagon SR5 4WD - 205,000 KLM - CAD$1400 OBO

Well, winter has passed and with the return of my car in to the country soon I no longer have room for the winter beater that gave me by far the most fun driving winter I've had to date. The car is a 1986 Toyota Tercel Wagon SR5 4WD . It's awesomely ugly, a ton of fun to drive, but has a few quirks....

Great article! The story behind my tercel isn't nearly as dramatic but I searched for several months to find one of these babies because my parents had one from new til death when I was a youngster. They bought it new in 86 and since they don't take care of their vehicles, live in canada and put a l...

I'd love to see this pics, I was going to replace my shocks but if its cheaper to just rebuild them I might as well go with that route. what are the cartridges worth? a nice pictoral of the install would be incredible :D is there other things that I should buy and replace also? any seals, etc? I wan...

Oh, I should also report that noise levels on the highway have gone down significantly since I did the bearing job - I always blamed the knobby winter tires I have on there for the extreme road noise but it's quite comfortable now at "high" speeds.

Weird, haha. Mine is kind of the opposite, it looks pretty fantastic from the outside, not a single dent, one spec of rust on the hood where I assume a rock hit it. A tiny bit of bubbling around some of the seals and a bit around the trunk keyhole/latch dealie. But, jack it up and look underneath or...

I'll see if I can put something together takza.

Keith, that sucks about your strut mount and I'm extremely jealous of the lack of rust on your car. Must be a lot easier working on a vehicle where everything isnt seized. :D

i did mess around with the ball joint and tie rod a bit and I couldn't detect any play - I wasn't sure if I would be able to notice it or not just by pulling on them, etc. I did however notice that both boots have a slight rip, one of them doesn't seem to have leaked anything but one of them is defi...

I drove to work!! :) The seal that was on there in the picture is the wrong one! I had them backwards which is why everything was so confusing. I had Toyota fax me an exploded diagram, it was a horrible fax but good enough to see that the smaller seal went on the hub side, not the larger one like I ...

Hi Keith, thanks for the post. I still wasnt sure about which way to face the seals but you made that very clear. I actually did get the NSK bearing, not Koyo. Also, I tried to get that hi temp moly lith from the local NAPA since I've seen you mention it a few times so I wanted to give that a shot -...

ok, well the rubber seal goes on the wheel side of the knuckle, and has to be installed at the same time as the wheel bearings. the metal ring goes on the CV shaft side, it has to be tapped into the knuckle and sits inside of a "C" shape to prevent crap from getting in, it will look like ...

Front Wheel Bearing Disaster.. please help ;(

Heh, so I'm way over my head in an attempt to replace my front wheel bearing. It was getting really bad so this had to be done. I would have taken it to a shop but they were quoting me several hundreds of dollars to do the job ($320 + parts was my cheapest quote).. money I don't have. Also, it seeme...
