Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

the old transmission is good for parts, save it for forum member Xirdneh Yeah I already gave him the usable fifth gear that came out of the transmission we just put in the car. With that fifth gear and this transmission he could have another gear box put together in no time. I also saved all of the...

Re: Power steering pressure hose leak

From what I remember when I replaced my power steering pump, the fittings on both ends are flare fittings. Don’t tighten them up too much you don’t want to strip the threads. Take them apart and have a good look at them making sure that both ends are clean and not buggered up. If you have trouble se...

Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

Well the transmission is all back together and installed and is shifting like a dream. When we pulled the old transmission out we saw why 5th gear wasn’t working. AfGUyEC.jpg 6Xa8WgF.jpg Until today I had never driven this car with a functioning fifth gear. It sure does make freeway driving more enj...

Re: Heater / Ac Behind Dash Panel Levers parts

When I recently had my dash apart to replace the heater core I lubed the cables but noticed that the temperature (lower) cable was interfering and colliding with the path of the vent select (upper) cable. A little adjustment with a pair of pliers to the end of the cable where it connects to the leve...

Re: 85 For parts in yard

From a tercel, or from another car needing modification? It was off an 87’ auto Tercel 4wd. I’m wondering if the rare intermittent wiper/cruise control switch only came in the auto versions post 84’? Since it was an auto it wasn’t an SR-5, but if was a well optioned car. It also had A/C and a sunro...

Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

Sounds good. Is there a particular brand and weight of conventional gear lube that you could recommend?

I actually found a set of said hens teeth in a wrecking yard. And have them in a box waiting to be installed in the 84’

Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

So I have bought the Redline oil for this trans. I don’t know what else to do since they are so many conflicting opinions about hypoid gears and brass synchros being lubricated by the same oil in our transmissions.

I spent the weekend swapping out the flasher relay to a load independent version from superbrightleds.com. I also tore the dash apart and replaced the heater core and installed the under dash A/C components. What a job that was.

Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

I can see how you would get the impression that the younger generation doesn’t appreciate older cars or fixing and maintaining a car. However every week my students mention to me how cool they think my car is and offer to buy it from me. It typically will spark a conversation about what car they are...

Re: Another Seattle AL25 member

Yesterday I took the Tercel in to the local locksmith shop which is owned by a previous helicopter instructor of mine. We re-keyed all the locks to the code found on the passenger side lock, so that everything operates with one key now. Today my friend and I headed over to Xirdneh’s place and picked...
