Re: ZDDP based oil, a must for flat tappet cams

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the dishwasher detergent. wife and I have gone thru hell trying to sort out the dishwasher situation. 8) I used a German oil for a while called LubroMoly, kinda pricy, like $32 for 5 quarts. Worked real well but was odd seeing my oil dark gray all the time, h...

Re: ZDDP based oil, a must for flat tappet cams

Opps, my bad. I was thinking mechanical vs hydraulic, thanks for the correction. I forgot about pushrods and lifters. Cheap oil with the additive works, no need to spend extra $. I do feel those older designed engines could use more protection than plain oil. The transmission could probably u...

ZDDP based oil, a must for flat tappet cams

How many are protecting their Tercel flat tappet cams with ZDDP based oil or oil additive? As many of you already know, there have been dramatic increases in flat tappet camshaft failures over the past few years. According to our research, this is due mostly to recent changes in motor oil formulas. ...

Re: My not so new 87 Terc (pics inside)

The Schneider cams may cost more than Delta cams. But it isn't fair to say that Schneider Cams are too much for the 3ac or 4ac when according to SynthDesign, he used the Schneider 284 cam. That cam would be way too much for any reasonable street machine, even in a v8. The RPM range is way out of lin...

4AC stroked?

Can a 4AC be stroked? Is there enough clearance between rod and block, etc.. for a small stroke, even 1/8 inch? The journals on the crank could be welded up and reground. The combination of an increased bore with the 4ac engine plus a small stroke increase would be a noticeable improvement over a st...

Thanks Petros, I would really appreciate that. It helps to know where I'm starting from. Also do you by any chance have your Delta Cam sheet?

Re: Leaking Head Gasket ruined my Schneider 260 cam

The high spot at the pin lifted the head in a diagonal direction to the opposite corner, which caused the head to rock slightly when on the bare block. I checked the area between the cylinders with a straight edge and feeler gauges and it was flat. But when I checked the same area between the cylind...

Re: Leaking Head Gasket ruined my Schneider 260 cam

Petros, I read your head gasket repair guide. Thank you it was very informative and helpful. I have granite slabs around my house, wish I had read your guide first, it would have been a lot easier. I do want to point out in your guide you didn't remove the 2 locating pins on the block surface. The o...

Camshaft Observations

Here is the Schneider 260 cam specs and the 278 cam specs. There is an interesting difference. Notice the duration difference at .050 also the lobe separation angle difference. Check this chart on how lobe angle separation affects power band. http://www.compcams.com/Pages/413/cam-timing-lobe-separat...

Re: Defective Weber Carb

I bought it new about 3 years ago and the car was down for repairs the past year. I have not contacted the vendor. I will have to look up which one.

I bought it from here. Kit K 740 http://www.redlineweber.com/carb-kits/auto/toyota/

Re: Leaking Head Gasket ruined my Schneider 260 cam

Petros, it was water. I think it was leaking into a cylinder and steaming up into the valve cover area. I didn't notice any in the oil. Can't say about the cam being too much, it ran really great and the 260f which I had wasn't much over stock but sure did run good. Never had a problem with it until...
