Re: Rough/low rpm idle, bogs and dies around 400 rpm

it is normal to hear a sucking sound with the air clean assembly off. the carb works by sucking air down the barrels, and it is normal to hear a "hiss" with the air clean assembly off the carb. You can also check for vac leaks using some carb spray, with the engine running spray it around...

Thanks for compiling this FAQ. It's just what a noob like me needs. But can anyone tell me where to find the FSM?

Re: Rough/low rpm idle, bogs and dies around 400 rpm

when you hear the sucking noise it most likely is the hose that attaches under air filter housing (comes out of carb base on driverside and attaches under housing) Thanks for the heads up, I'll look for that. Also, you're right about that road noise! Really want to see about putting down some polyu...

Re: Rough/low rpm idle, bogs and dies around 400 rpm

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. I'd look carefully around the carb and see if there are any hoses that are disconnected. Some of them come off pretty easily. There is one that is connected to the bottom of the air cleaner. That one usually pops off on mine when I remove the air cleaner. Even if no...

Rough/low rpm idle, bogs and dies around 400 rpm

My '87 started just running rough on low rpm's and it wants to bog and die at stoplights. I took the air filter cover off and I immediately heard a sucking sound. Figure it must be a vacuum issue, and read that I might have to cap off the AAP. Thing is, it gets really cold up here in Iceland, and I ...

Re: Carburetor disassemble and assemble video

Was hoping to put off a carb rebuild for a while but seeing as I'll be forced to address the horrible idle that just popped up, you have my huge thanks for putting this up. One question though, where can I get the rebuild kit?

Re: Ace's '87 Tercel Wagon

Looks pretty good, Kwaiin! I actually dig the burlap texture, it meshes nice with the interior. My interior is black/grey so unfortunately I won't be able to copy that cheap fix =) My cargo cover panel is actually in a somewhat decent shape, I think I might get away with re-carpeting it on the cheap...

Re: Icelandic tercel

Looks great in bronze! And I really like the US/Canadian type grill and headlight setup. Those bumpers are the worst though, way too big ;) I take no credit for naming the pepper shakers btw, I think all Brits call these type wheels pepper pots. A lot of 80's Escorts and Fiestas came with them, even...

Re: Icelandic tercel

I found this photo of an '88 Sprinter Carib (JDM version/second gen Tercel to the rest of the world) which has these peppershaker wheels. So I guess they're original? It also has the body-color side mirrors, so it's pretty likely that this is the RV version in its JDM form.

Re: Icelandic tercel

for some reason the paint/rubber coating comes off the corners frist sometimes. My wife's mazda does that. the air damn under the bumper looks different too, and notice the shoulder belt mount on the passenger side, also different from the NA Tercel. I take two of those, send them over please. I wo...

Re: We did Tercel names, how about Member names?

humpfritter is actually an old Icelandic name. It's really not, the spelling is 'Hólmfríður' and it sounds nothing like humpfritter. Phonetically I guess you spell it out sort of like: Holme- Free -thurr (th sound should be very soft) Sources: am Icelandic and my sister's name is Hólmfríður (Fríða)

Re: Newbie on board

Lol thanks for the warning! I've started going over the Tercel this weekend. Changed almost everything in the drum brakes. Those were pretty much shot. Got it to run a little better by changing the fuel filter but there is still a little "putt-putt" to the engine I don't like. I have to c...
