Stolen 1986 Tercel in the Bay Area!

As we are always searching for parts or whole cars, I saw this just now and figured we could all keep our eyes open to help the man who rightfully owns this beauty. I know many of you are on the West Coast so try to keep a look out!

Re: Ace's '87 Tercel Wagon

Looks pretty good, Kwaiin! I actually dig the burlap texture, it meshes nice with the interior. My interior is black/grey so unfortunately I won't be able to copy that cheap fix =) My cargo cover panel is actually in a somewhat decent shape, I think I might get away with re-carpeting it on the chea...

Another concern of mine, that year motor puts out 220hp on stock boost.. Id be careful with it as i am now, but thats like a 240% gain in power, last thing i want to is blow a trans.

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

Let's put it this way, if it were possible, even remotely, to mate a S engine to an A bellhousing we would have heard of it or somebody would have done it by now. Agreed, that does make sense. I have found posts of people who have done it to AE86 corollas but they save it can be quite the challenge...

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

The transmission would have been changed going from A to S engines, especially considering it is a 3S and already been through 1S and 2S. well, if this is true, it saddens me. but in the mean time heres some pictures of our first small off road experience together (like my pressure treated 4x4 rear...

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

did the transmission change from the first gen MR2 to the 2nd gen MR2? If they are similar, than the bolt up for the engine should be the same, no matter what other changes they made to the engine. keep in mind it is a MAJOR operation to make an engine not designed for that car to fit and work prop...

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

that is a fuel injected engine, so you will also want the ECM, wire harness, fuel pump, fuel lines/filter and all the sensors if that is what you want to do. Best to have a donor car with all the bits and pices to pull off, but you would not need an MR2 for all of that, an EFI corolla would supply ...

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

I am not familar with the s series, but I thought the tubo engine used the same short block and should bolt up. the 20 valve engine will bolt up, but there was a lot of custom parts to fabricate to make it fit. Likely it would be the same with the MR2 turbo engine, lot of custom parts to make, and ...

I figured that was the case, well, there's still a parts turbo on it... :)

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

So, speaking of "not so powerhouse", a buddy of mine came upon a 3sgte motor in a gen 2 MR2 at a local parts yard. Anyone have info on if the 3s can bolt up to the bell housing on these? A turbo 4wd tercel would be a fun project.

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

Try double clutching into second when cold. When you replace the spark plugs, replace the plug wires, the distributor cap, and the rotor. If by "powerhouse" you mean "no power" there's a reason our first wagon got named Pokey  That's what I've been doing and it helps. I've ...

Re: New Member with newly acquired 1987 Tercel!

Glad to see all worked out for you. As for the wash job (I'm probably gonna get flamed for this) you should do what I call a "Comet-bath." Wash it with scouring powder and water. The scouring powder has bleach which will remove mold/mildew and a mild abrasive which will remove some oxidat...

Re: Ace's '87 Tercel Wagon

Welcome welcome! I too have an '87, as far as your "hatch cardboard thing" (im assuming cargo cover) I actually just rebuilt one out of plywood. You could use a lighter weight material but as long as you can trace a pattern and take some measurements its quite easy to do! Yeah, I saw some...
