Re: Sooo.....Blown Head Gasket.....

I was picturing porcelain, granite didn't even cross my mind for some reason. I use a slab of countertop to check boards for flatness off the planer so I should have...

Re: Sooo.....Blown Head Gasket.....

I use a $3 pane of glass from the hardware store and tape a sheet of sandpaper to it instead of tile. I'd trust it more to be flat.

Re: Much needed maintenance

Still up in the air. It needed some work and so I wanted to fix it to give it a fair shake. I like tinkering, it's worth more all fixed up and I'm not in a hurry...I like everything about it, i just don't like driving it enough to use it very often. Maybe now that it's no so bouncy it'll be fun. If ...

Much needed maintenance

Spent three hours in the yard this morning doing some way overdue repairs. A pile of empty boxes and old parts is always fun.

image.jpg

Rear shocks were original (!) and the front struts were totally void of oil, unless you count what was in the assembly... The brakes weren't worn but glazed ...

Re: Heat and light - lots of both

It uses water and air. Back flush first and then alternated a couple of times. Only got wet once. image.jpg
It creates a 'water hammer' sort of action... Using an air chuck you just hit it with air now and again to give all that crap in there a little jolt and shake it free. Need to make a couple ...

Heat and light - lots of both

image.jpg Did a little work on the car this week. The heater was balmy at best and the first time I drove it (after installing a repaired transmission) it was negative 20's and less than pleasant. So, I took all the heater ducts under the dash apart and blew everything out, took the valance off and ...

Re: Introduction

The tercel doesn't have any cancer, just small areas of surface rust where dents or gravel has opened up the paint. I meant with any car I buy, I don't mind dents but stay away from rust. I can fix anything mechanically but have yet to find the patience for body work.

It still has the factory ...

Re: Introduction

Since I decided to 'give' myself a few days off after an injury at work, I figured I'd take a look at the Tercel and see how the old girl made out sitting alone all winter. Between the few things she needs for me to feel comfortable selling and the time I've spent the last two evening readings posts ...

Re: my '84 Tercel4wd stolen today!

They probably just used another toyota key. I used the key for my '93 toyota pickup to start an '84 tercel a couple months ago.

Re: Introduction

Yikes. Been a while...
I wanted to update you all on the car, it's a short story anyway. I was super busy this fall/winter and the transmission went way to the back of the line to get repaired since I didn't have the time to mess with it. I think it was early January when I got it back and slammed ...

Re: Introduction

Thanks. He has rebuilt A couple in recent history that I know of, and lots of them years ago when they were more plentiful. He's buried in work right now but should know soon what it looks like in there.

Introduction

I guess an intro is in order...

I've been lurking a while, first quite a while ago for a friends son, who has an 84 T4, that I was helping with some front end repairs and wanted to know more about them. About a month ago I bought an 85 from the original owner, it spent a lot of its 130k miles ...
