Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel
Replaced it today. We'll see if that was indeed the culprit.

Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel
Found it. Upper radiator hose was slightly damp under the hose clamp. I wrapped the end up with a paper towel and took the car for a drive to get it warmed up. Sure enough, after 5 miles or so I stopped to check it and it was leaking out at the clamp. I guess it wasn't leaking bad enough to pool any...

Re: Polished sawblades....
Might want to clear coat over them to prevent oxidation. Though clear coat takes some of the mirror finish away.

Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel
It's been 2 months and maybe 1500 miles since I did the thermostat. I think I'll take Petros' advice and just watch it like a hawk but keep driving. If it is the head gasket, hopefully it waits until the weather warms up as I don't have a heated garage. If it's another leak, maybe it will make itsel...

Blowing hot air. No puddles on floor. Both good signs I guess?

Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel
Hmmm. I just replaced those when I did the water pump and timing belt in July. Used some silicone to seal it up too. I'll try wiggling it while the engine is running see if I get any visual leaks.

Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel
No leaks while idling. If it is an external leak it only happens while driving I guess.

Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel
So I noticed a few weeks ago that my coolant reservoir was a little low and topped it off. Chocked it up to air burping out of the lines since I replaced the thermostat a month prior. Looked again this morning and it was empty. Topped off the radiator and the tank and made a mental note to diagnose ...

Re: 16v 7afe swap thoughts
Looked at it today. Basket case. Body rotting out. Throttle shafts rusted solid. Probably would run with a full rebuild but not worth the effort.

Re: 16v 7afe swap thoughts
That 10000 rpm comment had me worried too but I don't know how much stock I put in its accuracy. What tach could he have setup that would show 10k rpm with any degree of accuracy? What fool would go through the trouble of programming a MS and NOT put a rev limiter in place? Has to be worth $500 thou...

Re: 16v 7afe swap thoughts
So i didn't buy that corolla but this seems like TOO good a deal to pass up https://martinsburg.craigslist.org/cto/5383918005.html Comes with a 4age 20V Silvertop and Megasquirt ECM. Seller claims engine was pulled from a wrecked AE86 so in theory the RWD conversion stuff has already been done to it...

Actually it appears that 21901 in that diagram is indeed the heater insulator.

I've always just wire wheeled nuts and bolts when doing machinery restoration. Unless you can get OE replacements, new ones rarely match close enough and really stick out as different looking.

Re: Mike's 85 FWD 5dr Tercel
Well the fender looks great other than the completely wrong shade of white. It looked much closer under the fluorescent lights at the auto parts store. Oh well. I found a site online selling the correct paint code in an aerosol can so hopefully that will be better. I probably won't remove it again, ...
