Re: It starts but doesn't idle or stay running

Marvin, Internal combustion engines require 3 things to start/run (assuming timing is adequate): compression, fuel, and spark. Assume compression is ok if running before and start by checking for spark and fuel. If you have spark, you should be able to squirt fuel in the top of the carb and at least...

Re: Sputters or dies after running a while.

Mogordo,

Does the fuel boil when poured in the carb? I’ve experienced times when less than perfect fuel delivery would combine with a “hot” carburetor and it would have to cool down some before running again. Dieing as you start uphill points to inadequate fuel as well.

Re: Sputters or dies after running a while.

Mogordo,

It may be a fuel delivery issue. I don’t have experience with the Webers, but it sounds like it’s starving for fuel. Blockage or possible leak in the fuel supply side allowing the carb to suck air.

Re: '83 3A hoses question

I don’t think you’ll find more hose. It should slip over the nipple on the valve cover and the other end slides over metal pipe leading to the air filter housing. I would expect it will be difficult to save.

Re: '83 3A hoses question

Hey desertrat, It seems dieseling most often occurs when timing is off, you might give it a check. Most of us shoot for 10 BTDC vs the spec’d 5 degrees. As for your hose challenge, I don’t have a good answer. I’ve kinked normal flex hosing and am currently using some 1/2” copper waterline fitting wh...

Re: Reconnecting here

David,

I will reach out to Paul and see if that is hard to change. I assume it’s all about file size, but ??

Welcome back Jeffro.

Re: 84 SR5 part out

TD,

The transmissions are interchangeable through all years. The gear change from 84’-85’ was in the differentials. There were slight changes in the transmission as well through the years, but nothing major.

TT,

What color are you after? Check out Mr. Wrenches post about parting a Tercel. Luke is awesome and that car has the grey interior.

Yes, I saw that. Still too pricey for me and I have my hands full.

Re: New Member. New Tercel!

zaru,

The FSM is under the General tab, under General “stickies”.

We do have a great group here, but the 3E engine was the next generation, so you won’t find much here. I’m surprised it still used a carb? If you post with questions, there may be some helpful responses. Good luck.

Re: Bolt ID Question

I’ve fought these some, but not too bad. I keep the stock “thin” drain plugs on the bottom, my 15/16” socket has always removed them with a breaker bar and a little care. About any side fill plug I remove gets swapped with a new 19mm plug with a nice tall top. O’Reilly AP carries them and they sure ...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project

Not yet, I’m a shade tree mechanic, so I try things that make sense to me. I just added a 1/2” steel plate to mount front calipers on the rear. Calipers swap sides to keep the bleeders on top and hoses are added. I’m still driving with zip ties holding the brake lines/hoses in place. I had to remove...

Re: Texas T4WD 7AGE Project

Fantastic work sir! I’ve never been into a combination brake valve. However, I added stock Tercel calipers (front) to the rear of my car and have 4 wheel disc brakes now. I did not change the combination valve and it drives well. It may pissibly lick the back brakes a little early in very icy, slick...

Welcome CD,

While the pic shows vented rotors, they indicate “solid” in the literature. If you want vented rotors, you can step up to the MR2 rotor/caliper swap.
