As shared previously, this continues to sound like a fuel “starvation” issue. As the engine runs and heats the carburetor, fuel will get hot enough to “boil” or vaporize from the bowl. Those are the front wheel spacers (as David said) needed when you complete the MR2 rotor and brake caliper upgrade.

I ended up swapping the transmission and never digging into this. The transmission in my second Tercel started making worrisome noises so I parked it. I have most of the bearings needed, but believe there is one bearing that has not been found. I’m pretty certain this is the business I used ...

I’m not suggesting an overhaul or anything. I would expect you could get things back in order much more easily with the transmission out of the car.

Likely best to pull the transmission at this point. If you don’t have a spot to work on it, it’s tough. Good luck with whatever you decide.
