Re: Ebay Tercel

Jimi, The linked pic shows the 86’ and later model from the rear. There is a third break light at the base of the rear window and the wiper rests in the up position vs down (among other changes). I also notice the plastic license plate surround got some paint and the SR5 badge isn’t there. https://s...

Re: Ebay Tercel

irowiki, I’m not big on the window tint, but in AZ or other similar places it makes sense. I hadn’t paid attention to the third brake light. I have my honeybees in the lower pasture at my parent’s house since we moved to town, I love EL for crawling through the tall grass and up the steeper hills. D...

Re: TBI / Fuel Injection Build

Nice work pbtv, I’ve been enjoying my rebuilt 4a engine with stock 3a carb. I also went with a Delta cam (272) that was recommended here. I am really enjoying it, however, long, steepish hills still suck the life out of her enough that I downshift now and again. And my project Tercel includes A/C an...

Re: Excessively Smokey Starts - With Video

Torpedo, Petros is king, here are a couple of my thoughts. If you are having to add coolant once a week, it's going somewhere, if not under the car, makes me think into the cylinder. That much smoke (if from oil) should be pretty apparent by smell. The description of starting with heavy smoke and th...

Re: No-Start and running out of time

Franklin, How have you timed the engine thus far? I've never had much luck with resistance testing a coil. Honestly, if I was going into business for myself, I might produce coils, as it seems over half of them get replaced when they are working just fine. That said, you might double check your grou...

Re: speedi sleeve for front of crankshaft

Thanks Splatterdog, It looks like National 99128 is what I need and it is SS. Do you use loctite when installing?? It's meant to be a friction fit, but at least one video I watched used loctite. I assume I would just need to give the shaft end a light coat of oil before driving the sleeve on. Chris

Re: speedi sleeve for front of crankshaft

Vidoes make things seem pretty straight forward. I won't have a lot of room for swinging a hammer obviously, can a small jack be used to press on pushing against the bumper, etc.? Install width would seem like the other main thing to confirm, so once installed, it doesn't interfere with the balancer...

speedi sleeve for front of crankshaft

Good morning all, I'm right at 3,000 miles on the 4a rebuild and everything seems to be breaking in nicely. As such, I want to address a careless error on my part and likely speedi sleeve the crank shaft snout. It got to leaking oil pretty good in the first 500 miles and I found the nicked snout. Af...
