Re: Checking a 4AC engine out of the car
Petros, I checked the 4ac as you suggested and it seems to be in very good condition. However, I did a compression test on the original 3ac that's in my Tercel. The readings vary from 165 to 175psi. The engine hardly use any oil, maybe 50-100ml between oil change (every 5,000km). So I'm now wonderin...

Re: Replacing LH Engine Mount
I haven't had a response on the above, would that be because you guys have your air conditioning pump on the right hand side of your Tercels, seeing that you have left hand side steering and ours is on the rhs?

Re: Brand new timing belt
Petros, if my memory serves me right, last time I removed the pulley to change the seal, I tried to pry it off and the flange broke off. Luckily Toyota still had them in stock. That's why I drilled and tapped the two holes in it so that I wouldn't break it again in future. The pulley is very brittle.

Re: Brand new timing belt
Last time I changed my crankshaft seal I drilled and tapped two holes (one on either side of the crankshaft hole) in the timing belt pulley. So next time I need to remove the gear all I have to do is bolt a flat bar to the pulley. A tapped hole in the centre of the bar and a thick washer in front of...

Re: rear air shocks
Mattel, where did you buy yours from and what brand are they? Are they still available in Oz for the Tercel?

Replacing LH Engine Mount
Last year, I replaced all the under carriage rubber components on my Tercel, with the exception of the LH engine mount and the gearbox mount (the latter I haven't been able to find in Oz, UK or the US), mainly because rubber deteriorates with time . Does anybody know if it's possible to replace the ...

David - If you are thinking of getting a RAV4, I believe the 2nd & 3rd generation RAV4's had issues with the automatic gearboxes behaving erratically because of problems with the CPU, usually after the warranty had ran out. Luckily, my wife's 2003/2004 Rav wasn't affected because it's a manual. ...

Re: John Lennon's R-R
For me it's the Delorean because I used to work for Goodyear in N. Ireland and we supplied the hoses, belts and tyres for the Delorean cars which were built in Belfast. Then it closed down and so did Goodyear.

Re: got some window tint last week
Very impressive. Just curious - how come you didn't get the front windows done? Is that because it's illegal where you are?

Re: transmission smooth, but clunks when first accelerates
I forgot to mention that my Tercel has manual steering. That's the only version that Toyota sold here. So, I'm not sure what the setup is with power steering. But I imagine it would still have a bush on the passenger side to support the steering rack.

Re: transmission smooth, but clunks when first accelerates
Also grab the inner tie rod on the passenger side and move it up and down. If there's play, it means that the steering rack internal bush is worn. I had clunking noise whenever I pushed the clutch in a hurry to change gear (manual trans of course). I replaced the bush and the noise disappeared.

Re: OE Steering Rack Mounts & Numbers
I was able to buy the D shape bushing from Toyota in Oz as well, but not the round one. Fortunately mine is still in good condition, but If you guys know where to get one, please post it on this site. I've almost replaced all the under carriage rubber bushings on my Tercel.
