1986 2WD 100,300 miles $1500

Hi I finally found the used 4Runner I've been looking for and now it's time to sell my wagon. I have a project thread (Path to Daily Driver). I enjoyed it and really have done very little other than clean it up. I started to assemble the parts for a clutch replacement as well as a timing belt change...

YouTube suggestions

Pulling the engine soon to replace the clutch. Do you have any suggestions for videos to watch? Since there are not that many specific to tercels, are their other Toyota models I can search on that would be close. for example, there are a lot for the 22RE

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

So its been a few weeks now since my starter was reinstalled. The click sound is gone and its started up each time on the first try. Now I'm planning my first significant projec. First up, its over due for a timing belt and now I'm noticing my clutch is slipping. I think both of these should be tack...

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

I don't have a roof leak, but I did have rust in the gutter. Mine was jam packed with pine needles & pollen so I removed the chrome trim. It still collects dirt and traps water, but running a toothbrush down the gutter keeps it clear

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

I've got some time off so the starter contacts and plunger were replaced. It seems as though the "click" issue was getting more frequent and it was getting annoying. The interior of the starter was pretty dusty and dirty, more than I thought so it took quite a bit of effort to get it all c...

Re: Starter Repair Kit

Update: I picked up a plunger and contacts from RE Electric in Tacoma instead of eBay/Amazon since I'm making a point to buy from local shops especially if they are willing to talk me through a project. I think the price was $13 and they had everything in stock - the two other autoparts stores would...

Re: Starter Repair Kit

I agree, I think it's just the contacts too. The link you provided is the one I found in an earlier thread - convinced me that replacing just the contacts would be worth the time. If it doesn't work, I'm not out a large amount. The part number in the picture is $12 at my local dealer parts dept. The...

Starter Repair Kit

If you have recently purchased a repair kit for your starter, would you post the vendor and part number. I have been chasing down links included in the various threads that diagnose the problem and describe the repair process, however I am not having any luck finding a kit. Local retail shops are sa...

Re: Tercel wont start

I knew it was ignition related. Same thing happened to my brothers truck and mine (Toyota's) when I installed the starter. The wire that come to the solenoid on the starter was extremely greasy and dirty. Used some brake kleen and fired right up. Only took about 2 minutes :D Big thanks are due! I g...

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

Beauty! Removing the black rubber door trim is an idea I might just have to copy. I am going to take a guess that I'm getting about 27 mpg. It's all city driving and only 5-10 miles a trip so it will likely improve Next up for me is to start shopping for maintenance parts to replace the timing belt....

Re: '86 FWD path to daily driver

I have a weber on my MG Midget and it was a necessary replacement after the Stromberg OE melted in a fire. Anyway, speaking of my MG, I forgot I bought chrome wheel rings ages ago from Moss Motors. They fit my wagon but they were a bear to put on and now are there to stay
