Re: Rebuilt the front end and fixed some oil leaks + bonus skid plate mod
It was a cotton flannel shirt. I disassembled the OE boots and used them as a pattern to sew up new ones. I doubt they'll last 30 years, but then again neither did the OE boots. If I can find some plaid upholstery fabric to make new seat covers out of some day, I'll remake them out of that.

Re: Rebuilt the front end and fixed some oil leaks + bonus skid plate mod
Thanks! I made the boots and speaker covers out of an old shirt that I found at a thrift store. It was an easy and fun afternoon project and a vast improvement over the crappy old stuff.I would love to find some similar looking upholstery fabric to make new seat covers with.

And for some reason it's posting my pics in reverse order. I'll fix whatever is wrong tomorrow.

Re: Rebuilt the front end and fixed some oil leaks + bonus skid plate mod
I used Ace Hardware branded Rust Stopper paint. I doubt it will last long, despite my extensive prep work, but it looks good now. I bought the "Slow Children" sign on Amazon, so as not to place any actual children in danger

5-speed parts in a 6-speed?
My question is will parts from a 5-speed (shafts, bearings, blocking rings, shift forks, etc.) fit in a 6-speed? Are 5-speed parts as hard to find as 6-speed parts?

Re: My fleet
The parts car is in decent shape and has a buttery smooth trans, but is rusty and the previous owner had a party with the vacuum lines and wiring. The driver has a better body and fewer miles but the trans is starting to wine. The parts car's trans will get swapped into the driver this summer ...

Re: My fleet
First I pressure washed them at the local car wash. Next I took a wire wheel attached to a drill to them to get off the majority of the rust. After a second wash (with the garden hose) I masked the tires and valve stem while the rim dried. I then applied a number of coats of Rust-oleum rust ...
