Well, finally got back in town and started driving the tercel regularly again and it seems the fuel pump didn't fix as much of the problem as I had hoped. I really am thinking it is the carburetor and so now I'll probably have to do the rebuild.

Forgot to come vack with an update. I replaced the fuel pump as suggested and it fixed the gas smell. I havent had time to extensively test it but it seemed good. I still kind of want to rebuild the carb because of how much the car diesels when I shut it off but I'll probably atleast put it off for ...

I agree it does look like that has a leak. But with 2 different shops telling me the carb was leaking its making me feel like it is still part of the issue aswell. I wish I had a trustworthy shop here to take it too, the shop here wanted $450 to rebuild my carburetor...

Also I should mention that sometimes while im driving and the car was just fired up, the car idles really high, probably around 1500-2000rpm (no tach) and kind of stays that high until I either rev the car above that a few times or drive around for a bit.

You can see in the pictures where its wet. Its a pretty strong smell and it gives me a headache to drive.

2 different shops said it was my carb leaking. They just wanted to much for a rebuild. You could see that the carb was wet from gas

I have an 84 tercel wagon and lately there has been a heavy gas smell. It appears that the carb is leaking gasoline. Would a carb rebuild fix this issue?
