Losing power on hills?

Hello, i'm having trouble with my 3A powered Tercel losing power on hills (while 4wding) it will drive up them fine until you get stuck or have to back off, then it dies and wont start until its on the flat again. Is this a common problem? It drives fine in all other situations, but does this on ...

Re: Face lift corner lights.

Thank you very much for the info sir, very handy to know. I think I have found the correct corner light in NZ, its amazingly hard to find parts for these in NZ.

Cheers, Thomas.

Re: Vintage Grumbles SR5 from New Zealand.

Hello, i've done a lot of work on this lately, and fitted a mess of new parts, but still have quite a lot to do before it will be road legal again. I did take it out for a bit of 4WDing last weekend tho, and it did a lot better than I expected it to do. I am really loving this wagon, such cool ...

Face lift corner lights.

Hello, just wondering if any other Toyota shares the same corner lights as the 88 shape Tercels?

Cheers, Thomas.

Re: Vintage Grumbles SR5 from New Zealand.

Hello, yeh I will give that a go next time, was just getting a feel for what the tyres were like. Was pleasantly surprised how well they did.

A few new parts showed up this morning, so have new rear shocks, CV boots, brake pads and control arm/sway bar bushes to fit, should make the wagon a bit ...

Re: Vintage Grumbles SR5 from New Zealand.

Hello, yeh I guess it could be in a lot worse condition, there was just more rust in it than the seller made out, but nothing that cant be fixed. Just a pity the new windscreen was glued in over fairly decent rust.

Turns out the CV's in it are OK, so I will just need to clean/pack/reboot them ...

Vintage Grumbles SR5 from New Zealand.

Hello, thought I would share with you, a few pics of my Tercel. I've only had it a few weeks, but have wanted one for years. The pre 89 ones are fairly rare here in New Zealand, hence i've been soaking up a lot of info from this site. Mine is an 88, SR5 spec, and has been used as a farm vehicle for ...

Re: How big can you go?

The tyres I was looking at are 27", but measure 26" OD. I will mainly use the wagon for off roading, its kind of my weekend adventure car. I do plan on jacking it up a bit, but I dont want to do work that requires certification, as that costs quite a bit over here. I'll maybe have the coils reset ...

How big can you go?

Hello, thinking about what tyres to run on my wagon, and was wondering how big of a tyre can be run on a std Tercel? I've been looking at a set of 27x8.5x14" tyres, and wondering if anyone else has run anything like this or larger without major lift?

Cheers, Thomas.

Re: New CV joints/Front drive shafts

That's good to know. Parts people in NZ are hesitant to say they have the correct part, as no one over here knows much about the 4wd vehicles/wagons. A place in ozey seems sure they have the correct part, and the pricing is quite reasonable, so will likely buy them from there.

I was wondering why ...

Re: New CV joints/Front drive shafts

That's all very handy information, i'll have to pull them out and take a lot of measurements and photos to make sure I get the correct ones. I will likely have to order them online as I live in the middle of nowhere, as not many places in NZ hold parts for Tercels, as they are not at all common here ...

Re: New CV joints/Front drive shafts

Thank you for that sir, that's very helpful, as I can get CV's for the std FWD tercels here in NZ. I was having trouble finding information that confirmed the FWD and 4WD ones were the same. If worse comes to worse, it wouldn't be too much trouble to import a set from NA or ozey.

Cheers, Thomas.

New CV joints/Front drive shafts

Hello, i'm new to the forum and the Tercel world, and have a few questions I hope you lovely people may be able to help me with. I'm from New Zealand and have just purchased a 1988 AL25 Tercel. I've wanted one for many years, but the early ones are very rare over here, as are parts. The car I have ...
