Re: 4ac Build Thread

If you have to ask, it's already time. Rebuilds tend to dirty the initial oil fill quickly as the moving parts wear in, however be on the lookout for bright "glitter" which could indicate very bad things happening inside. An oil change also gets all that assembly lube out. And for God's sa...

Re: Shifting into 4WD tips, tricks and procedures requested

Another quick thing about 4WD is to only engage it if your front wheels aren 't slipping/spinning. (ie. climbing a slope and losing traction) That's a good way to get bad crunchy sounds really quick. Other than that it's cake, but I find that backing up a bit helps if the lever is hard to disengage....

Re: How Hot Does Your Tercel Run?

I'm glad somebody made that clear; I recently changed my bypass tube o-rings and TVSV to fix some leaks when I noticed how warm my car was running. It was getting well into the temp icon at times and my heater output was lousy. After changing the 'stat I was disappointed that the needle still hovere...

...replacing it with a broad range full synthetic yielded good results. sorry mr2di4, what do you mean by "broad range"? The only hard shift is the 1-2 shift on cold mornings, but after a couple of miles everything seems to work just fine. is that with the synthetic/traditional mix? that'...

Re: automatic transmission

My first T4WD was an auto and I'll agree that my manual SR5 is much more fun to drive. However, although the gearing in the automatics is more suited to slower driving, it must be said that the transmission itself is BULLETPROOF. It will take heaps of abuse and can actually be very useful in slipper...

Re: unhappy with 80w-90 gear oil

I was experiencing the same problem with my Trans when I did a fresh fill. I found that draining oit half of the new 80W/90 and replacing it with a broad range full synthetic yielded good results. The only hard shift is the 1-2 shift on cold mornings, but after a couple of miles everything seems to ...

Re: i need help

...Also, when you spray down your engine with either a hose or a high pressure wash, it works better to keep the engine running rather than risk soaking the electrical stuff and you can not start it until you pull off the cap and let it all dry out. I wouldn't recommend doing this. I did an engine ...

agreed! that's some excellent work, and your documentation is incredible. your car is lucky to have such a meticulous and caring owner. those are nice wheels. are they 14 or 15"? looking forward to seeing what your 'little surprise' is going to be. The wheels are the 'surprise' . They're 14&qu...

Re: '85 T4WD "Zombie"

Hello all from Alaska-land! Time for an update on my T4WD's status. I've been busy with summer activities and work but somehow have found the means to do some major repairs on the Zombie. First up is my most recent accomplishment: My rear axle. Ever since I started driving it I've been battling the ...

Re: Needing an 85 or later SR5 rear axle...

Muwaaha ha ha ha! It will LIVE... My brother, who works for one of the scrap metal places, found me an '84 T4WD! It's crushed up top but the rear axle looks intact and all the mounts are in good shape. I'm also getting a rear bumper, gas tank and whatever else I can salvage. (Yes I know the axle rat...

Re: Questions regarding oil changes

I have found that any kind of mileage count seems meaningless. I check my oil every other time I fill up and evaluate it's condition. Most of my cars get oil changes two to three times a year. To me, dark-yet-translucent oil doesn't necessarily mean a change is imperative. I focus more on how the oi...

Yeah, I'm kinda leaning that way. Perhaps I'll see about borrowing my friend's welder this weekend and attempting some repairs. My Zombie thread is long past due for an update anyways...

Thanks dlb, I'm in kindof the same situation and that's about the repair I have planned. I just figured I'd put some feelers out in case my repairs fail.

Needing an 85 or later SR5 rear axle...

Hi all, after a summer's worth of scouring the local yards and all my usual haunts I have determined: A: I am driving what is very likely the ONLY T4WD on my island. B: There are no serious sources for parts to be found within 500 miles. I'm in Ketchikan, Alaska, normally a haven for rusty cars but ...
