Re: Rookie here with Vacuum issues possibly more.
I had a vacuum leak in my EGR modulator so I removed it and plugged/capped the hoses. A few days later when I was driving up a steep highway (DLB's Malahat), there was a strange, strong smell from the exhaust and the engine died. This kept happening when the engine was at high rpms and under heavy l...

Just realized this was already posted as an '88 in Whistler.

Re: 1982 Toyota Tercel - $600 (South Nanaimo)
Seriously, if I had room in my driveway, I'd be buying that one. I have a thing for 1st gen Tercels. I was almost thinking of getting rid of my 2nd gen hatchback to make room, but I've never given up on a driveable car yet. It's almost a moral issue.

Re: intermittent spark?
I had that problem after I put new plugs in. It ran fine at idle, but seemed to be missing in a cylinder when I accelerated. I replaced the plugs again and it was fine. I'm guessing the store gave me the wrong plugs the first time or one of them had a ground in it.

Re: What do I need to fix?
You mentioned that it smells flooded often. I'd have a close look at the fuel pump. There's a small "tell-tale" hole in the pump body. If the pump diaphragm is damaged, fuel will come out of this hole. Usually it's just a puff of fuel vapor at first. This has happened to me on 3 different ...

I don't know if this is the same person, but they want to trade a '85 standard (maybe 2wd?). http://nanaimo.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z472152222

Very nice. Since I'm an automatic fan I'm tempted, but I'm already afraid I'm going to end up as a vehicle hoarder. It's probably already sold anyways.

Re: What do I need to fix?
I have an '84 auto and I get about 30 mpg on the highway and about 26-28 around town. I drive like a granny though. Also, I removed and plugged the vacuum line to the AAP since the diaphragm in mine was leaking creating a vacuum leak and a rough idle. I don't notice any difference unless I try to a...

Tercel wagon in charity ad
I was driving behind a bus and saw this ad on the back. From a distance all I could see was the car and the word "unacceptable". I thought at first it was inferring that it was a crappy car. It turns out the Tercel in the ad goes on tours locally to raise awareness about homelessness. Terc...

Re: Toyota Tercel Repair Fiasco #3
Do you know if the automatics and standards had the same gear ratio? Just wondering if the front differential from a 2wd hatchback is the same as the one in a 4wd wagon for the same year. I have one laying around from a 2wd and I was hoarding it in case I needed it for my 4wd. I guess I could open i...

Re: Rebuilding my automatic
$80 to $90 an hour is a normal shop rate around here too. Some large cities will get well over $100/hr. So that prices is still way too high, parts kits could be costly, but no more than about $600-1000. even in canada. I think the shop was telling you they did not want to do it, figuring you would...

Re: Rebuilding my automatic
got a rad for my 92 civic for $74, which i thought was pretty good. That's a much better price than I was hoping for. The only time I was looking into getting a radiator was years ago with my '82 Tercel. I forget who I checked with (it wasn't the dealer), but they wanted $380 for it. Less than $100...
